read so far:

MARVEL 1602 #3-5: Picking up. Not as good as Marvel tried to build it up to be(but then, what is?) History, politics and a cute spy. I'm happy.

El Cazador 1-3: Enjoyable, but technical difficulties out the wazzoo. "Mi hermanos"(supposed to be "mis") that perennial problem of another language being spoken or translated, and the untranslated words coming through(the nobleman and mother and son would be speaking in Spanish, not English, and and thus there should not be little Spanish words popping up for "flavor"...pet peeve of mine) and what seemes to be a misunderstanding of illegitimacy in historical terms, but we won't get into that. ALSO, I'm missing 6 pages of issue #2 and can't find another copy of it ANYWHERE...

Hawkeye 2-3: Not as good as #1, but still better than most of the Marvel comics I flip through at Hastings. Stefano Raffaele still needs to settle in, artwise, but it's shaping up well. The entire sequence with the librarian in #3 felt showhorned in, though.

KABUKI: DREAMS COLLECTION: Not as good as "Circle of Blood" and very much "all about the art" but I can pretty much forgive that as it's a series of dreams she's having as she's dying of a gutshot.

Runaways 7-8: Uhm...second arc blues. Still enjoyable, but didn't leave much of an impression.

Wonder Woman #198: AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! WHAT HAS HE DONE TO MY ARTEMIS?!?!?!!?!?!?!?!?! Ahem. As some of you know, I've caught a few glimpses before of how Drew Johnson depicts Artemis(my favorite WW character and one of my favorite DC characters to boot) and now that I've seen it...sigh...Overall I like his work, but I'm used to seeing Artemis with delicate features, lithe, egyptian themed outfits and long, long red hair. Now she has this 3-4 inch(proprtionately) red stick thingie sticking out of her head... Writingwise, Wonder Woman is going excellently and this is probably the best of what I've read so far. The only problem is that the focus is more on her staff than on Diana, but it looks like that's changing, and Rucka is bringing as many elements of Diana's past into play as he can, and is having fun with Greek mythology.
