Lookit, a random non-manga post about stuff I'm reading.
After an eternity,the 5th Grimjack book finally came out. I really miss Tim Truman's art. Not just because he's great, and has that gritty guys/classy ladies style I really like, but also because the replacement just wasn't as good. Shawn McManus was pretty good, too. Anyway, this trade had lots of tidbits about Gaunt's past, which I highly approve of, as details are often sadly and noticably lacking in that department(not that I get lost, I just get more curious) A good trade, I especially like the flashback about how Goddess and Blakjak see Gaunt(BAH! to their breaking up, even if he wasn't good enough for her anyway) Beyond this, insert my standard "Grimjack is awesome and fries my brain" ravings. Let's hope it doesn't take an eternity for the next trade to come out, too.
"Proposition Player" is the other Vertigo book by Bill Willingham that you can get ahold of. It's no Fables or Shadowpact, but it'll do, as long as you're able to leave all theological beliefs and opinions at the door. Quite fun, really, despite an unlikably likable lead(a prelude to Jack in Fables, probably. Hell Mary[IT'S HER NAME!] had a few Snow White-esque qualities at te end, too) Basically about a gambler who ends up the owner of 32 souls(besides his own) as the result of a rather bad joke, and learns the conseuences and benefits of it in the biggest bluff and gamble...uhm...ever. Rather fun. Probably a good read for anyone who likes Willingham's stuff.
