the rest of Get Backers
Dec. 26th, 2006 02:03 amI finished Get Backers. At 49 eps, this is the most anime bingeing I've done since Rurouni Kenshin a few months back.
It was quite good overall, though at it's strongest when being funny(aside from the Limitless Fortress arcs, both of which were excellent, though the second was a bit rushed. And both contained a fair bit of "Boys! You're half dead! get backj in bed!" from me. I was quite happy Kazuki was wearing the non-girly short Rem gave him in the last arc...I guess he got an advance warning from his potential-OTP sense.)
It's the rare anime where I actually LIKE all the characters, even Akabane(who ended up in a 3 way tie with Juubei and Emishi for 4th favorite), Himiko and Makubex, all of whom I didn't cxare for a first, but quite liked by the end. Yeah, there was "I want to drink Ban's blood" Fudo, "Ginji doesn't like me so i'm a vindictive witch against all other women" fire chick, and "I'm useless and will get beaten in five seconds unless I cowardly attack from behind" wind boy, but they're both such minor characters that they don't count, and both are appropiately dealt with.
Everything that had to be wrapped up was. Except for Makubex and, to a degree, Ginji, none of the mysteries about the character's pasts were resolved. Though of the mysteries, the most important one was the truth about the Limitless Fortress and the people who live there, so it's for the best that that's the one they resolved.
As a final thought, for those who've seen it, after Natsumi's solo ep. did anyone else feel a mild urge to OTP Natsumi with Emishi? Something about the idea struck me as fun. Though, really, I've wanted to pair Natsumi off with someone from the start. Partly because I quite like her, and partly because I want to see Paul, Ban and Ginjirip the entrails out of react to a guy liking Natsumi. It would be entertaining.
