Jan. 9th, 2010 01:55 pmI'm quite certain that, when packing books to read on trips, sensible people pack a couple of longer books, resulting in fewer things to worry about. I pack a bunch of short books*. By pure coincidence, they were all written between 1900 and 1960. I tend to really like the books I've read from then, because the writing tends to be very direct and to the point. This is significant for me because, even with the best written of books, the ADD can make my attention and focus drift away from what's going on if too much time is spent on something. (For example, I liked what I read of Atonement, but eventually had to give up on it because McEwan would spend so much time describing things that I'd start to forget what he was describing.) Anyway, I like the writing and I like most of the books I've read from the first half(ish) of the 20th century, but I actually haven't read a whole lot.
Anyone want to rec their favorites?
*And then learn that there is going to be less car time since we were visiting one relative after all. Ah well.
