Jul. 2nd, 2010 05:33 pmHey lookit, yet another "female characters we don't like because we have, like, standards*, that say only certain things are allowed to count as good" post. (Where, inevitably, commenters rally to outdo each other with "better" suggestions and further the belief that to like one female character you must bash another.) Why don't we get "The 10 worst/most disappointing/most annoying men in *genre* *medium*" lists? Who wants to nominate them.
Also, fandom, please get over "For every Kara Thrace..." No, I'm not saying stop liking her. I'm saying stop comparing every fictional woman ever to her and implying that they should be judged by how like/not like her they are.
Oh, and LJ, please take ONTD off the front page. I don't care about Lady GaGa chipping a nail or how early Twilight fans showed up in line for Eclipse.
*crankypants*
*Yes, standards are good. Double standards and using "standards" as an excuse for being judgmental or dismissive because something isn't tailor made for you are not good.
*is also judgmental*
ETA: WARNING! Reading comments runs the risk of stumbling across things like this:
I wanted to shoot Diana Fowley and Dualla. At least one of them had the sense to do so herself lol
(Page 11. I assumed it would be people who had been linked going "WTF?" by then!)
