I am home!  or at least, in Texas and at my parents' house to be fed and do my laundry.

Oh Texas, i missed you but not your weather.  It was 90-some fahrenheit in Madison yesterday and on the way to lunch with [personal profile] oyceter , [personal profile] coffeeandink , [personal profile] thomasyan , and a few others, I therw my fists in the air and said "Curse you Madison! I left Texas to get away from this!"

Meanwhile, I think I was in an AU version of DFW today.  The valet luggage elevator worked, my flight left on time, and in the 3 hour layover, my departure gate didn'r change once, much less the normal 3 or + times.

I will possibly/probably post on important book acquisitions later.

First non-LJ/DW thing I saw while catching up on reading lists:

“In fact, some marriage therapists caution that women can become as dangerously unbalanced by these books’ entrancing but distorted messages as men can be by the distorted messages of pornography,” said best-selling author Shaunti Feldhahn, who studies the differences between men and women.

...

For many women, these romance novels may be more than a necessity; they may be an addiction -- and Slattery said she is seeing more and more women who are clinically addicted to romantic books.

Many women do not see their love for reading romantic books as a problem, while others are admitting dissatisfaction in their marriages that may stem from reading these types of books.

There's even a guide for curing yourself of the awful awful addiction!

(About half the women reading during my layover were reading Harlequins or Silhouettes...I guess it's a contagious addiction!)

Meanwhile, I'm finally reading Sei Shonagon and am halfway through the acctual diar stuff.  She's like if Jane Austen's Emma were a fandom BNF in Heian Japan.

I particularly love when she's in a snit and all "I am sulking and unappreciated and refuse to write you fanfic porn poetry until you flatter me enough!"  And when she's going on about how people in certain positions should have this one exact appearance, and how eyecandy is important, and shaking her fist about the women involved with strapping young men.
