In my head, this memoir came into being via a conversation like this:

RANDOM PERSON: You know, pregnancy really limits women so much.
AUBRAC: Oh really?
RANDOM PERSON: Well, pregnant women have to be, like, protected and kept safe and all and can't run around on secret missions and such.
AUBRAC: I think I'll write a memoir about my work with the French Resistance during World War II.
RANDOM PERSON: COOL!
AUBRAC: Specifically, the part where I was pregnant with my second child.
RANDOM PERSON: Uhm...
AUBRAC: Along with being a university professor and already having a toddler .
RANDOM PERSON: That's sounds very busy.
AUBRAC: Among other missions, I also helped break my Jewish husband out of jail after he'd been arrested for being a spy. Twice.
RANDOM PERSON: Oooooooooooooo.
AUBRAC: There was lots of conning and charming prison guards and officers involved in that, let me tell you. And maybe a fake wedding.
RANDOM PERSON: *starry eyes*
AUBRAC: I think I'll start it with a bit about how, after everything else, I end up giving birth to a 20* pound baby in London. During an air raid.
RANDOM PERSON: Can I have your autograph?

Lucie Aubrac: Amazingly fabulous lady. (Her husband wasn't half bad either.) The first half of her memoir (set during the first few months of her pregnancy) covers various details about the Resistance and missions she and her husband went on and how she dealt with both the Resistance and her professional life and how people were involved at various levels. The second half covers the time in which her husband, Raymond, was imprisoned in the Montluc prison, and the efforts to free him. Very much worth reading.

(Does anyone know how/if I can get ahold of the movie about her? It doesn't appear to have been released in the US.)

*ETA:  Aubrac's daughter did not, of course, literally weigh 20 pounds, but I read this a few weeks ago and forgot to note the actual weight, but she was a big kiddo.
