Kang Ji Hwan (best known in these parts as the lead of the sageuks Capital Scandal and the Hong Sisters' version of Hong Gil Dong) was arrested for assaulting 2 younger female employees in his home after a company party. This has led to a halt in production and reruns of his currently airing drama Joseon Survival (about, in a probably intentional bit of meta, Im Kkuk Jong, one of the pre-gentrified inspirations for the novel Hong Gil Dong) possibly killing that drama (and possibly leaving the rest of the cast and crew without their full pay, based on what I've heard about some other dramas with production problems), as well as KJH canceling all public appearances. One of the women has spoken out and it seems their version of events is currently holding true, while KJH claims to be too drunk to remember anything.
If you read the articles the timeline and events sound a bit fishy, but sifting through an alarming but unsurpising amount of victim blaming (spare yourself), it seems to be fairly standard at talent agencies. Group/Business drinks are unofficially required and while you won't be fired for not attending or accepting all the drinks offered, you get bullied and won't get promoted. After MeToo hit KEnt pretty hard, talent agencies put in a system that if a higher ranked talent wants "private drinks" with younger female talents or employees, or to have drinks at their home do it (WTF) but take another female employee with you. If you feel threatened or that you're being prevented from leaving, one of them is to call a designated mid-level person at the agency who will then come and collect you and your companion, and scold the talent about boundaries. If that's true, then the seemingly iffy timeline and sequence of events makes sense, with the women accidentally falling asleep while waiting for their ride in a guest room, only for whatever reason, the mid-level person didn't/couldn't act on the text that was sent for almost an hour.
And there's your latest kdrama fave possibly/probably ruined.
