The Lonely Werewolf Girl (+ its sequel, Curse of the Werewolf Girl) is sort of about Kalix MacRinnalch, (it has a big cast and is more ensemble, but she sets everything into motion) a Scottish teenage werewolf who's an angst-ridden berserker addicted to laudanum, wandering into the city on the run from mercenaries because she killed her father. She meets up with a couple of impoverished hippie college students, her fabulously disdainful fashion designer older sister who really doesn't want anything to do with barbaric werewolf politics, the older sister's demon Queen bestie who splits her time between delighting in new shoes and impaling her enemies, and various other shenanigans as the werewolf clan tries to pick their new successor and Thrix, the fashion designer, tries to protect her clothing designs from a spy.

It's very humorous, mostly stemming from its practical, matter-of-fact approach to amazingly dramatic subjects, but also very sincere. Kalix is a mercilessly unglamorous sullen, cranky and ungrateful teenage girl but she's not looked down on, she just grumps around and struggles with her messed up life while her new roommates try to live their lives and help out. There's self-harm inside. Daniel, one of the main characters, is a total Nice Guy (tm) but I don't think we're expected to admire that or root for him to get the girl at all.....possibly if I were not tipsy I would have a more comprehensive list of warnings. But anyway, it's pretty fun.
