TOKYOPOP just licensed the sequel series to Petshop of Horrors. I read the first volume last year, and it just lacks the same charming menace of the original. It's not as subtle, at any rate. Or maybe I just feel that way because we have Count D but no Leon.
Mars is my most favorite shoujo romance manga ever, and Rurouni Kenshin is definitely in my top 10 manga too. It still might actually be in the top 5. My lists are always in flux but seem to fall back into place as series I had such high hopes for tend to fail me as they reach their end.
Re: Yami no Matsuei I remember the collective fandom scream when it came out that the mangaka decided she didn't want to draw manga anymore and just stopped turning pages in to her editor. (I think she went back to video game illustration and character design?)
