I think [personal profile] oyceterhas convinced me to give Tsubasa: Reservoir Chronicles a second chance(read it a while back, liked it until it got boring, dropped it)  See here(very spoilery, but be sure to read all the comments, too)

Some of that stuff sounds utterly amazing in every way possible, both good and bad.

But I almost must get past my belief that in the end, CLAMP will go FUBAR because they don't know how to end things(I have yet to forgive them for the endings of Wish and Chobits)

Tsubasa has just enough interesting points to make me keep picking it up... but I would have liked it a lot more as a stand-alone series rather than a really obvious tie-in to every other CLAMP work. I was always a big Card Captor Sakura fan because I thought it was a clever, heartfelt little shoujo series... but Sakura is stripped of all personality in Tsubasa and Syaoran is made into a generic hero. I was hoping it would get better, but no... even in the most recent chapters, Sakura is the same blank-eyed zombie whose "purity" and "kindness" will save everyone. x__x And you're right... since it's a CLAMP series, we already know the ending will be a letdown. If it ends at all. I'm kind of disappointed with them now... they used to slyly skewer the conventions of shoujo manga with really engaging series like CCS and Rayearth, or have shocking endings like Tokyo Babylon and RG Veda... and now instead of being a refreshing alternative to the mainstream, they are the mainstream!

Haven't read Wish but the ending of Chobits made me dispise CLAMP. The only good ending they've had was in Man of Many Faces and it would have been tough to ruin such a short and silly series.

The Chobits ending...the whole thing was about a human and a machine falling in love...then they said that Chii couldn't love...then another persocomm(one of the ones who said they couldn't love) told his persocomm partner that he loved her AND IT MADE NO SENSE.

Wish...It was a lovely, light, fresh little romance...then it allwent FUBAR the last half volume.

In the bit of CCS I've seen(a few issues I got ahold of from when it was published as a reg comic a year or so ago) I liked how Sayaoran wasn't really overly nice, but still was. IIRC, the "new" one is just...a nice guy. Which is fine, but...

The problem I had was that, when I dropped it, it had degenerated into little more than an excuse at AU and crossovers(there had just been this RPB thing with the RG Veda characters and I wondered why I'd bothered reading the last few volumes.)

Yeah, I liked how he was a irritable but well-intentioned kid with a big mouth. CLAMP sucked all the personality out of him... I guess they gave the jerk-with-a-heart-of-marshmallow spot to Kurogane. And I really like Kurogane - his interactions with Fai are funny and sweet and everything else I like to see in a manga relationship, but CLAMP will never let them get together because all they do now is TEASE. *laugh* Once again, CCS left me with a lot more relationship satisfaction! Since Tsubasa and SDK were running in the same magazine, it was only natural to compare them... and I felt that in character depth and interaction, SDK was a far better series... but Tsubasa got infinitely more attention.

*laugh* I can't even call it AU if the personalities of the original characters have been totally changed... Tomoyo is one of the few recurring characters that is strong enough to be memorable. And I'm getting a little tired of the constant deus ex machina from Yuuko. The constant crossovers to xxxHolic really hurt xxxHolic too, I think... it sometimes feels like the latter is just aimlessly meandering alongside Tsubasa instead of being a series that can stand on its own. Of course, the basic premise of xxxHolic is exactly the same as that of Gohou Drug... and although I do like xxxHolic, I wish CLAMP had continued Gohou Drug instead.
