weekly report and poor kitty...
Feb. 6th, 2005 02:58 pmSo, yesterday morning we took my cat to the vet...poor thing...last time she rode in a car, sh ended up at a new home...she spent most of the ride up there with her head buried under my arm making funny mewling sounds...then she didn't so much as flinch when she got her shots. She was a little braver on the way home, though.
And, while the DVD stack is holding steady(if not growing) the books to be read are starting to look...well...readable. A lot of the homework I had this week involved listening to tapes, so I was able to do a lot of reading at work. So, lots read, very little watched as a result. Got 3 DVDs and watched 2 DVDs...Only got a few books and read a lot, but it was double payday, so a lot more is coming my way in the next week or so.

More commentray stuff:
Flame of Recca(Anime/Manga): Y'know, I wasn't quite sure why I was enjoying this so much until I saw a note from the editor at the back of the manga. Yeah, the characters were endearing and the storyline was interesting, but no more so than a lot of others(actually, in a way it reminds me a bit of Inu Yasha in reverse in some ways) but then it had the flip side factor of many, many panty shots(of 1 character) and very had much a "boy power" tone to it (mind you, I enjoyed it enough that I bought the first manga before work on Thursday after only having seen the first 2 episodes) The editor's comment was that, for all the hijinks, it was about a modern boy trying to uphold the ideals of a dead profession/way of life. Interesting, especially as the ideals are those of the ninja, who I've mostly seen portrayed as sneaky, deceptive little assassin types out to foil the noble samurai in his quest...Some attitude changes between the anime and the manga(mostly in terms of the characters opinions of each other) and, like Samurai Deeper Kyo, the anime seems to be a reorganized and condensed version of the anime, revealing things in the first scene that, manga-wise, I'm probably not supposed to know yet, but both were definately enjoyable enough to check out future volumes.
DESCENDANTS OF DARKNESS v3: Ah...uhm...I read this at work ::blush blush blush:: So happy my supervisor didn't read any of it when he stopped to see what I was reading (curiosity, not checking up on me) Now, if you'll excuse me... ::erects 50 foot high protective barbed wire electric fence around Tsuzuki to protect him from the evil horny doctor...considers and lets Hisoka in too.::
Pet Shop Of Horrors Vol 10/xxxHOLiC v1: On the one hand, good ending to a solid, often hilarious series that I resisted for way too long. On the other hand, D grade ripoff of said series that I probably would have liked had I not read Pet Shop first. Will only continue if it seems to be necessary for reading Tsubasa, which is kinda a companion book to it.
SANDMAN PRESENTS TALLER TALES TPB: Ooooo....good. In fact, better than a couple of the regular Sandman stories. The final book in this was kinda iffy(likely would have enjoyed it more had the individual storries been a bit more spread out) but overall these were very, very good stories with a great deal of respect for the original material that also played homage to the regular series...they would have all fit in fairly seemlessly with the regular series.
Richard Dragon #3-8: Nice martial arts/character introspect there. In many, many ways it's very clear that the creative team is trying to recapture the feel of their Nightwing work(and, generally, not quite succeeding) but its pretty good. But, most importantly...CONNOR HAWKE IS NEXT!!!!
