The only Kindaichi I've seen is the original one with Doumoto Tsuyoshi from KinKi Kids, but they're all based on the manga, so I expect they're all good.
I've seen a lot of dramas that didn't have any Johnny's in them, because the Japanese stations here never got the really popular stuff, so it was all off-beat stuff, usually with an older cast...which means they'd be even harder to find online and subbed, I think. I liked Age 35 Koishikute, and one or two starring Akashiya Sanma.
Oh, Salaryman Kintaro is good. And Pure. Those both have Takahashi Katsunori, who is hot like burning. I also liked another of his, Kizu Darake no Love Song, which also starred Nakashima Mika. Oh, and For You.
Shouko no Kakeratachi stars Fujii Fumiya and...someone really pretty whose name I can't remember. It does have one Johnny's, Kokubun Taichi from Tokio, but he is only in a supporting role.
...I should just make a post about which dramas I've watched. XD
