I have realized where I have seen Jane before. He played Stresseman in Nodame Cantabile. I must say that I find him much, much more endearing when he isn't leching on his teenaged students. (Jane's a little too girlcrazy too, but harmlessly so, and sticks to, you know, adults.)
I forget, sometimes, how amazingly dramatic jdramas tend to make everything. I love it.
I have to say, though, that I really, really could have done without the second slowmo of Shinkai falling 15-20 feet off the ramp to land on concrete and watching the ankle snap. Once was enough for that, thanks. I'm a little surprised, though, that the entire rehab story was in the one episode. I would have expected it to carry over into the last episode, but I guess they wanted to save room for the amazingly dramatic test flight to see if Shinkai got to be a co-pilot again. Uhm...did anyone else have to suppress a few giggles over that much happening during the examination? That just happened to be Ogawa's first flight ever? Oh, the drama!
I liked how they dealt with the storyline when Ogawa learned that Koda was supposed to fly the plane her parents died on. I was worried there would be accusations and it would be drawn out, but instead she quietly dealt with it and the "confrontation" essentially boiled down to her telling him not to blame himself anymore. Actually, pretty much everything was dealt with well. I'm especially happy that Shinkai and Ogawa's relationship remained straightforward and free of any stupid misunderstandings or grudges or outside complications, but still remained interesting and had complications and more than a bit of snark. I'm also glad they they had Fukaura stop chasing after Shinkai about the time it became obvious that Shinkai and Ogawa were together, but without the typical dramatic revelation/giving up scene. I have to say, though, that when Koda started to ask Togashi to go on a date with him then backed out, I pretty much went "oh, give me a break already!" when she said something along the same lines. If he hadn't gotten it together by the end, there may have been Issues.
I still think that Koda's storyline was the stronger of the two, and can't help but think that if the drama were made a few years from now with KimuTaku in the Koda role(or just the Koda role the lead role) it would become a drama about a pilot who pushed himself and others too hard because of a past mistake, and his protegee, and likely be a stronger drama for it. (Mind you, it's a strong drama as is.)
AND THE CRAZY NEIGHBOR! I loved the crazy neighbor so. More dramas should have a character like that. I love how she moved off, then got a job as a stewardess on the airline and said "You'll never escape, Shou-chan!" I think Jane will like that one. I also remain amused by Shinkai apparently being scared of girls. I'm surprised Ogawa didn't have to tackle him to give the kiss he was basically begging for earlier.
