The best part about Hawkeye saying it’s not so bad to be Bradley’s hostage because she might get a chance to slit his throat if he ever let his guard down is that she probably means it.
This is the volume where we learn some, if not all, of Mustang’s "dates" are his spies. (And they want to know where Hawkeye is.) And he follows up his "Another man took Elizabeth away from me" with looking through his chess pieces and referring to his pawns and then his queen being taken from him. And then pulling a note out of the hidden queen. (No, my pairing preference here is not a well kept secret.)
Gruman in drag is surprisingly untraumatizing.
I like the conclusion of Ed and Hawkeye’s conversation about Ishbal being Hawkeye revealing Mustang’s plans to Ed, along with the realization that they’re only "heroes" because they’re the ones in charge. Even if it does only reinforce my fears that it will all end in blood. I wish I could say that Ed’s talk about how he’ll only pay Mustang back after Mustang becomes president helped but, well, it doesn’t.
manga!Kimbley is somehow 100 times creepier than anime!Kimbley.
You know, I don’t dislike Mai/May/Mei/whatever-you-call-her-because-it’s-always-changing, but I’m annoyed by her more often than not. I do really like her scenes with Scar, though.
Scar v. Kimbley = win. (Then again, I generally like it when Scar is on a rampage.)
But most importantly, THE BRIGGS PEOPLE HAVE FINALLY MADE IT STATESIDE! New automail! Crazy characters! Ed and Al and Fulman doing menial labor! And most importantly, Major General Armstrong. A part of me will always long for her and Izumi to go head-to-head. Except that if that happened, a time zone or two might be wiped out. Or they could team up and take over the world. Hawkeye could help with that. She’s too smart to take either on unless it involves a rifle and a safe distance, though.
Man, the Armstrong siblings have Issues. I can only imagine growing up with Olivier. I suspect there was just mass obedience.
