*skips spoilers* (If they happen by vol 11, you should have my reaction with the week.)
The thing with Kato is that there's almost an underlying theme of female=bad. Kurai I get, as she was almost raped when they learned she was a girl, and Alexiel made the comment about it being easier if she were reborn a male. Then there's Alexiel, the warrior angel, making that comment. Add to that Kato's attitude and Sevothtarte's treatment of women, and there's a trend. It'd be easier if I knew how seriously to take the comments about beating his girlfriends. So far, the only "Good" (in terms of the text acknowledging her as being morally so, or at least a protagonist, not "a good character") female characters we have (who is also biologically female) who hasn't expressed a dislike for being female are Sara and Doll. And I'm not sure Doll counts. The others are evil, would rather be men, or crossdressers. Now, while I love Doll, Sara, Alexiel and Kurai (and had great fun with Rosiel's little girlfriend in the school uniform before she died) I can't help but be a little iffy about that.
I knew I would love Doll forever when she splashed Uriel and started lecturing him.
I haven't read Godchild/Cain Saga yet (I have the first 2 volumes of CS waiting, but that'll probably wait until after I finish AS) so I hadn't noticed Cain and Riff's similarities, but I have Mary Weather's. I was happy when I got Fairy Cube as saw that Rin looked different.
