a) I like Samurai Champloo, though I don't really get the big deal about it. Pretty fun, but nothing incredibly special. No shipping for me, and the anime doesn't really pair anyone one, though it does come fairly close at times with Mugen/Fuu.
b) Basara is my favorite shoujo manga, no exceptions. It has complex plot and characterizations and one of favorite manga pairings, and never takes the easy road just because it can.
