We kick off with more catering to my base fictional needs Kyo/Yuya/Kyoshiro, with more caveman “GIVE ME MY GIRLIE AND MY BODY!” mentality from Kyo. Ad more Kyo trying to take Kyoshiro down while Kyoshiro is holding Yuya. As Kyoshiro is currently driving Kyo’s body during this, I think it can be universally agreed upon that Kyo is not thinking with the right part of his brain.
Akari and Sasuke also join in on the “Give Yuya back!” fun. This only makes sense, as Sasuke started calling her Onee-chan five minutes after meeting her, and Akari has half-considered switching teams for her. (No, not really, but probably the closest she’s ever come.)
But then we switch over to pure fun of Yuan’s family. Now, it’s no secret that, for whatever reason, SDK’s shounenitis symptom of a never-ending stream of new characters bothers me more than it does elsewhere. This makes no sense, as the characters are, in general, better than the ones that litter the landscapes of a lot of other shounen. Then again, it also means that some of the characters being left behind are also better characters. I do, though, quite like Yuan’s family, even though looking at Anthony is slightly painful. Though mostly used as a pit stop and easy way to dish out some power ups and give more backstory on Hotaru, the entire family dynamics were just fun.
I don’t know, though, what I think of the bit where Akira can’t get a power up. On the one hand I know that what Kamijyo was saying was that he fought tooth and nail and started at the bottom to get his powers, instead of just being given them like various other characters, but the bit where he can’t get any more powerful because he isn’t a Mibu or a samurai doesn’t sit well with me. I think, though, that maybe I just don’t like how people do or don’t get powers here, when it's actually addressed. (I’m trying to think of who else isn’t Mibu or samurai, and only coming up with Mahiro, Okuni and Yuya. Mahiro and Yuya’s bloodlines are pretty much anyone’s guess, but probably not Mibu or Samurai, and I’m pretty sure that, historically, Izumo no Okuni wasn’t from the samurai class.)
