Trick is about a physicist who investigates supernatural phenomena and is book-brilliant, but also extremely gullible. So he decides to hire an assistant, with the requirement being that they can convince him magic exists. A perpetually-out-of-work stage magician tricks him with a few sleights of hand and becomes his assistant. She's not much of a magician, and isn't very book smart, but is extremely good at seeing through cons, and figuring out how they're pulled off.
As I mentioned in the post, it's essentially an extended, bizarre courtship between two people who actually can't quite stand each other, but could never stand anyone else. (In the second season or so, it takes on an air that he and her mother have the wedding planned and the first 2 kids named, they're just waiting for her to figure it out.) It pretty much lives to overturn every trope and cliche it can.
