Oh looky...my second flamewar ever...
Feb. 21st, 2004 07:21 pmActually, I'm not sure it even qualifies as a flame war. Anyway, it's annoying, though people like the person I've been arguing with DO give me a healthy dose of self-esteem, simply because I don't need to act like that to be entertained or feel good about myself.
Moving on, I've had an inordinate amount of comments about my hair this week. A former coworker commented on how long it's gotten(just past my elbows, for the curious) a coworker asked if i've done something different with it(not really, I just tend to leave it loose when it's cold instead of putting it in a braid or ponytail) and another co-worker mentioned how beautiful it is(and its ALL NATURAL!!!) Then I did something really stupid and draped the cord of my headset across my neck. Yeah. Uh huh. Yes, I do still have my hair. No, it wasn't pretty...
Speaking of work, we've been told that we'll have a complete open enrollment soon once we have everyone trained and call flow has been established, Maybe I'll get a schedule that I like better, then.
Comics for the week:
Bone v5: Rockjaw, Master of the Eastern Border(Hastings had it in the bargain books...now I just need to get books 3-4)
Green Arrow: The Sounds of Violence(skimmed it and 2 pages are switched...rrr...)
Starman: Stars My Destination(after which, I have to wait for the unannounced 9th trade...)
Reading JLA: Destiny right now. It's an Elseworlds mini written by John Arcudi. Having mixed feelings about it. The first mixed feeling is that, while it's well written, it's written by the writer of FakeBolts, which I couldn't even make myself look at for more than a minute at the bookstore. On the one hand, it's very interesting. Not to give anything away, but it's about a world without Superman or Batman. Bruce Wayne and his mother were killed in the alley and his father survived, sans an arm, and later formed the JLA. If Lex Luthor is who I think he is, a similar fate is true of Superman.
Its a very interesting book and well written and drawn(I love Wonder Woman's outfit) but I think Arcudi went a bit too far in trying to make it different from the regular DCU. Some characters are changed to the point where I don't know if they're supposed to be based on an existing character or not, and others seem to have changes made to them for what simply seems to be the sake of making a change. Part of what made JLA: The Nail so good was that the changes were so simple and uncomplicated, but simultaneously earthshattering.
For anyone wondering why I'm devoting so much time to talking about this book when I usually don't...go back up to the FakeBolts comment. I wonder what that would have been like if he hadn't been forced to write a grim and gritty NuMarvel book, but just TBolts.
Lotsa comics arriving next week...
