Well, by this point, we know Pattinson thinks it's garbage, and I'm pretty sure Stewart does too. So maybe their "Oh God Oh God someone please save me from this!" performances will be good.
There is no accounting to taste, I think sometimes it is a matter of timing and not so much the quality. Twilight hit at the right time and place and it was easily marketable. In publishing, it was is easily accessible that tends to sell. And the populace doesn't tend to know or want to look into things further.

Yeah. And while Meyer could certainly do with improving her writing, it's not like she's going to bother while people eat those things up. I sure wouldn't.
I find the books dreadful but it is remarkable how many women and girls of all ages and education find them irresistible. And I suspect with the economic climate the way it is, the market for this type of escapist fantasy will just grow and grow.
... Good grief... that sounds like the rubbish I'm typing up for nanowrimo. Except that I don't do "mushy bits"... was someone paying Stephanie Meyer by the word or something?
reasons 20-22 are what made me most afraid when I heard this movie was happening.
reason 18 I just can't wait to see (my boyfriend might actually be able to identify with poor Edward...)
reason 15 is just gonna be awesome.
reason 12 is just awesome.
reason 7 I can see so many different ways this would be too funny. 'When Rabid Fans Attack'
Reason 4 would more awesome if I wasn't sick of the word 'gaysian'. It seems rather demeaning to two seperate groups of people. i mean do you see any special words for gay hispanics? or gay white people? gay black people?
reason 1 cracks me up since RPattz wanted to play him as darkly flawed as possible. I agree with the first commenter however--Angel and Spike, at their best, are cooler then these guys

My husband and I went to the new Bond film tonight, and he was terrified by the humongous line of vapid, shrieking teengirls waiting to get into one of the showings of Twilight when we got out. At least he didn't have to go to the bathroom with them the way I did. *shudder*
The other vampires - Laurent, Victoria, and James - don't just appear out of nowhere on page 375 because Stephenie Meyer belatedly realized something needed to happen.
Oh, heavens, that's just the funniest line ever.
And you're right, that excerpt is totally crazy and wrong and I'm laughing so hard at it that I fear that just picking up the book and reading the synopsis will send me into a laughter coma.
My male coworker who was asked to read it by a friend who wanted to know if guys liked it said that he liked it when they showed up to try to kill her, then hastily mentioned that it wasn't because he wanted her dead, but because it meant something was happening.
Which... I guess I can kinda sorta get for young girls. though it still kinda creeps the hell out of me, personally
What I can't comprehend is the young and educated adults who think the series is literary gold. I actually had to sit and listen to a classmate talking about how "witty and smart" Bella was. It took a lot of willpower for me to turn around and ask if they read the same book.
And the college aged students and adults make up a large portion of the fandom, believe it or not.
Makes sense. The more flat and lifeless the main character, the easier you can self insert yourself, right? And lord knows Bella is the perfect person for a self insert. Hell, I think she is a self insert for Stephine Meyers herself...
Unfortunately, it's not. (I'm reading the book right now since it was forced on me, and I still can't finish the book because every now and then I collapse into gales of laughter at lines like that. :P)
I loved that slide show, by the way. And I actually think too that Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart do have a bit more chemistry than Edward and Bella in the book. ^^; I never really got all the hype about Twilight(even more now that I read the book), since I think that even if you treat it as just a romance novel and not as anything more (as some people defend the book), it's still pretty bad. (And besides, I've seen other romances that were done better...)
