meganbmooreThis remains the fluffiest genderbender to ever fluff, and Juta continues to have the best reason to be a non-third party in a non-triangle ever.
This volume had three main parts. In the first, a feminine boy who wants to be masculine decides to make Asuka his mentor, not knowing about Asuka’s sekrit feminine interests. It was cute, and I was surprised that it didn’t end up with Ryo being the girl he liked or something. Then the trio has to find a new hangout after they can’t go to the roof anymore, and they end up making up a room in a building supposedly haunted by ghosts. It’s largely an excuse to show off Asuka’s mad killer housewife skills so he can make a perfect Christmas for Ryo, despite the blizzard. In the name of superior shoujo manga, Juta sneaks around outside so he’ll have a new chapter for his manga.
The main arc, however, was Asuka’s mother deciding he had to get married to a super girly-girl so that she can be reassured that he is a super manly-man. Apparently, learning he likes girly things could literally kill her. This results in the fiancé somehow deciding he’s a fairy tale prince, abducting him, and blackmailing him into agreeing to marry her. Forcing Juta to tell Ryo that Asuka was abducted by an evil organization so that she will ride in on a horse and rescue him.
It makes perfect sense in context! Honest!
Aya Kanno also shows her artistic chops pretty well, here, as several characters are drawn in classic 70s shoujo art style in the same panels where characters are drawn in her normal style.
I begin to fear what Juta will do when his readers decide the leads of his manga need to have sex. Or even kiss.
