I feel very out of the loop lately due to my total lack of interest in most of the popular movies lately, even though I’ll probably eventually watch most of them on video.

First we have Star Trek. Based on various reactions, I would probably like this. In fact, I think I would from the trailers. I’ve just never been into the various Trek series, and so can’t work up the interest. Also, the miniskirts and how they made Rachel Nichols look (in admittedly only one still that I’ve seen) rather scare me.

Then there’s Wolverine. I think we all knew that this movie wouldn’t be good when it was announced. Really, the general consensus is that there are only 4 real reasons to watch: (1) Hugh Jackman in leather pants, (2) Hugh Jackman screaming his angst, (3) action scenes, (4) it is X-Men, and you are a comic geek. All of which work quite well for me, just not on big screen levels. Plus, we’re kind of at that point in Wolverine’s life where women exist to be his girlfriend and then die so he can angst. At least until he gets some degree of amnesia and angsts over that.

Next up is Watchmen. I’ve read the graphic novel and I appreciate it, but I don’t necessarily like it, or the characters. Also, the graphic novel already told me that I don’t understand a woman’s heart if I have issues with a woman having a romantic relationship with a man who tried to violently rape her. I don’t need a movie telling me the same. Then there’s the whole bit with an actor I really like playing a character I really hate.

And then Up!, which seems to be the newest favorite. I must have seen the trailer 50 times, but I’d forget it existed if it weren’t being talked about so much. I think, though, that I’m less smitten with Pixar than others are. I’ve enjoyed Pixar movies, but forget they’re Pixar until I’m reminded. And now I will make 99% of the internet shun me by saying that I thought Wall-E was completely boring, despite loving the trailers. (Here’s I’ll make the other 1% shun me too: I prefer Cameron Mitchell, the John Crichton ripoff, to John Crichton. Yes. I know.)

Finally, we have the new Terminator movie. All I really have to say there is that I fail to see the point of anything calling itself Terminator that doesn’t involve Sarah Connor.

On the subject of movies, here are 2 ways that Hollywood can make sure I DON’T see a movie:

1. Title it He’s Just Not The Into You. Seriously, I know nothing about it save the title and some of the actors (who I like) but the title makes my nose permanently wrinkle. Kind of like “Famous Man’s wife/mother/sister/daughter/mistress/housekeeper.”

2. Call it Bride Wars (actually, not bad so far) and have it about lifelong best friends who become mortal enemies because only one close date is available at the place they both want to be married at. I watched the trailer, just to be sure it was as bad as it sounded. My imagination was kind. Not even Kate Hudson and Anne Hathaway can sway me.
