This volume is divided into two arcs. The first arc picks up at the end of volume seven, with a woman claiming to be a Nepalese goddess taking up residence in Bun-Nyuh’s shop while she waits for the lover she claims is coming to meet her. While there, she provides an alternative form of assistance from Mr. Yang’s, and one Bun-Nyuh is all too eager to accept, with possibly disastrous consequences.

The second story, which is not yet concluded, is a very skewed yet strangely faithful (until near the end of the volume, at least, where there’s a drastic change) retelling of “The Little Mermaid,” with Mr. Yang cast as the Sea Witch. I hope it ends up having a bearing on the main plot, as it would otherwise feel rather odd to switch to a side story with the main plot at such a drastic point as it is now.

The series seems to be preparing to draw to a close, and I’m very curious to see how Bun-Nyuh deals with her current state, not to mention how much of what the goddess said was true, if not in the way she implied it at the time.
