historical fiction
Aug. 30th, 2009 09:03 pmNot that I need any new books or will read all the ones I have anywhere near soon, but anyone want to recommend some historical fiction to me?
Guidelines(ish):
1. Pretty much any setting/time period is fine.
2. Major female characters/female protagonists are preferred, but not required.
3. Romantic plotlines optional.
4. No rape. Especially no rape or attempted rape in romantic pairings. This includes “he started to/almost did but stopped because he loves her sooo much/he realized it was wrong/etc.” Still tried, so I’ll probably still hate him.
5. Both fictional and historical protagonists are fine. Actual historical figures should actually feel real.
6. Mythology is spiffy, supernatural elements are fine, but I also read tons of fantasy, some of which is historical fantasy.
7. I tend to favor stories involving settings where one of the following is common: (1) swords, (2) parasols, (3) ladies with hats.
2 and 7 are to help narrow down the things most likely to catch my attention, not necessities.
