meganbmooreTRC and xxxHolic, I think, are the two series I’m reading where I pretty much need to reread things a year later. Del Rey’s translators also tend to do a pretty good job of making things a lot clearer than the scanslations, and of explaining things. (Note: Not slamming the scanslators, who don’t do this for a living and have the fandom demanding chapters the second raws are out.)
Of course, these volumes were right in the middle of the 100~ chapters that I read in the space of about a week a while back, which could also contribute to my “it all makes more sense now!”
Some bits:
1. All I have to say about the remainder of Mafia Chess World is that Mafia!Lantis really needs his own Hikaru to cheer him up. Hopefully a more age appropriate one, if he’s going to keep with the angsty longing stares.
2. Kurogane’s “Enough with the angsty self-sacrificing people calling all the shots! I’m taking charge and there will be no more attempted suicide by proxy!” moment remains one of the best things ever. I am amused by his conviction that he’ll smack Sakura next time he sees her, though. She’ll just look little and sad and he’ll stutter and make growly noises and stalk off. Only Mokona would ever worry about that.
3. Having now read RG Veda, all the Ashura stuff makes PERFECT SENSE now. The first time through, I was just terribly confused.
4. Speaking of reading other Clamp works, Tomoyo and Kendappa as sisters now makes such sheer genius that I think I’m actively bitter that we don’t see more of it.
5. Fai’s whole angsty backstory now seems…over the top? I mean, it was the first time I read it, too, but awesomely so. Now it’s more ridiculously so. And I remembered the bodies falling from the sky, but not wee!Fai dragging them to the tower so he could climb them to reach the window.
6. All the talk now between Seishiro and Syaoran about Cloney and Syaoran’s father is now…more interesting. That’s not a spoiler (and I’m sure it’s changed at least once since the latest scanslated chapters I read) as it’s clearly meant to be interesting and mysterious in the scenes, I just have a slightly different perspective (and suspicions) now.
