Ah, show. Even when you’re making me scratch my head, you’re still adorable.

Sometimes, I hate being right. Like with predicting Nathan’s death. Really, I’m surprised with how much I’ve ended up liking Nathan. Ditto with Zane, though I’m annoyed with how they aren’t even pretending that they’re pretty much replacing Nathan with Zane.

(I rather suspect that Zane was originally intended to be a random one-off character meant to drive Carter batty for an episode, and then they decided to keep him, given how his character seemed to be pretty much rewritten after his first episode. Kinda like how parts of the first few episodes are really awkward on rewatch, as they seem to have been toying with the idea of Jo/Carter before they realized that relationship worked way better if Jo is his scary rebellious teenaged daughter. They went from Zoe mentioning a bet about whether he’d go for Jo or Allison to Carter essentially given Zane the “have her home by 9 young man” speech.)

Also, did they totally forget that Kevin exists? I think he was in the background for 5 seconds in the wedding episode, but I don’t think he’s even been mentioned. You’d think he’d warrant at least a little attention at his (former!step)father’s death. (Actually, as Kevin’s father died before he was born and Nathan and Allison seem to have married very early in his life, Nathan’s exact status there may be more a matter of semantics.)

Henry is back to normal, which makes me happy. Beverly is apparently gone for good. Which makes me sad. Zoe’s boyfriend is much more endearing than he was last season. Probably because he isn’t making speeches about the evils of shallowness to a girl he probably wouldn’t be talking to if he didn’t think she was hot. And I’m enjoying how they’re bringing back seemingly random one-off characters from last seasons, especially when one is played by Lexa Doig.

Lexie is awesomely entertaining, and I kind of wish she were the main Carter of the show these days, mostly because Carter himself has been there long enough that the “normal guy sheriff in a town of geniuses” thing doesn’t work as well anymore. I liked Thorn way more than I was probably meant to, even when I was annoyed and wanting her to just say what was going on already. Ok, I was annoyed when it looked like she was going to spend the whole season turning the town into a conventional business, but they mostly dropped that early on.
