Some of you may remember my mentioning applying for an advancement program at work. They finally made it to the first round of interviews, and it was of the “we will tell you about it the day before and since you work for us we know you don’t get paid for 5 days so you’d better have something suitable for an interview to wear” variety. The past 27 hours have been essentially like this:

Pppppppaaaaaaaannnnnnniiiiicccccc!*

*dash around to find suitable clothes and settle for dressing like going to a funeral*

Pppppppaaaaaaaannnnnnniiiiicccccc!

*sleep like dead*

*go to work and spend entire shift angsting*

Pppppppaaaaaaaannnnnnniiiiicccccc!

*go to interview*

*be completely convinced bombed interview* **

*go home and order stack of historical fiction from Amazon that really shouldn’t be bought due to backlog stacks at maximum capacity and the payday thing*

*feel slightly better*

*get halfway to Pppppppaaaaaaaannnnnnniiiiicccccc! Again*

*give up on irritating romance novel with uberchauvinist hero and read manga*

*settle in to watch Babylon 5 and ponder whether to read prequel to assassin princess book or book about crossdressing dragonrider* ***

*I should never be given time to dwell.
**This is my reaction even when I supposedly did amazingly well! It could mean nothing!
***All my decisions should be this difficult.

Meanwhile, this circulated the lists a while back, and is recirculating:

In theory, even fans of the Brontes will find it amusing. It actually made me curious about Anne Bronte’s books when it popped up a few months ago. I knew there was a third Bronte sister, but was never curious about her books due to developing an aversion to the Brontes at an early age. Something to do with not caring for fiction with evil abusive men as protagonists and romantic figures, particularly fiction that gets praised for having evil abusive men as protagonists and romantic figures. I have her Agnes Grey, but who knows when I’ll get to it. I mean, I’m only just getting to Austen and Gaskell.

This, incidentally, segues well into the manpain flowchart, which is a thing of undeniable beauty. Be sure to read the comments.

Which brings me to Hu Ge’s latest wuxia series, Chinese Paladin 3. I think there’s a Chinese Paladin 2, but I’m not sure, as they’re based on specific games. For those not familiar with Hu Ge, he’s a Chinese actor who is overall decent, but mostly excels in:

1. Staring at women in befuddled (typically romantic) angst.
2. Fight scenes.
3. Screaming and wallowing in (typically romantic) angst.

Almost all his series are from this one director who casts him in virtually everything and makes sure his roles don’t require much more than angsting, fighting, and sometimes goofy behavior. Sadly, I cannot find the original (much better) promo I first saw, so you get this instead:

This reminded me that I haven’t watched many dramas lately. I used to watch them nonstop, but have been distracted the last year or so by scifi tv and BBC period dramas. I miss my wuxias and sageuks.

Must admit to having a massive soft spot for Hu Ge ♥

(There is no Chinese Paladin 2 b/c they decided the second game wasn't very filmable)
