Lately, I’ve been watching Nine Tailed Fox, aka, Forbidden Love, which is the gumiho drama from several years ago, and have 2 episodes left. Basics are that gumiho (Korean fox demons) are real and have a secret society. The heroine is a member of a squad of gumiho fighters who hunt down rebels, and the hero (who is also her childhood friend, but they don’t initially know who the other is) is part of a special forces unit that hunts gumiho. The first couple episodes are pretty much only worth it for Han Ye Seul as another gumiho warrior, but the first half was pretty fun, though the politics and secret supernatural race parts were always more fun than the romance. The second half is still largely enjoyable, but less fun because it’s more the romantic melodrama. Also, my two favorite characters decided to no longer have any characterization except for relentlessly pursuing people who weren’t more interested in them.
And, err…of the 5 major female characters, 2 recently died, and 2 of the remaining 3 are plotting against the heroine. Naturally, all of the men are still running around, doing their thing. Which increasingly includes judging the two remaining women who aren’t the heroine.
It’s still largely fun and I should finish it tonight, but not as fun as it was. (Mind you, I expect everyone to die by the end, it's just how it's playing out that annoys some.)
Also, I am in the mood for wuxia! Help me choose which. (Series with multiple versions are the most recent one.)
poll is at my LJ
And can someone fill me in on this season and last season’s jdramas? I kinda forgot about keeping track of them (because there are so many others that I haven‘t watched yet.
Unrelated to doramas:
1. Yesterday was payday. Today was consumerism day because Hastings was having a sale of secondhand books and DVDs. I got Legally Blonde I & II, Bend It Like Beckham, Bring It On and Daphne, along with the last Azumanga Daioh manga in the sale, and then Ilona Andrews's Bayou Moon, which was also on sale. I've seen both Legally Blonde movies several times but not owned then, and just watched Bring It On and Bend It Like Beckham for the first time recently. (I also attempted a couple of the BIO sequels. We won't discuss that.) Daphne is new to me, and is a BBC movie about Daphne DuMaurier.
2. I have just learned that Stephanie Meyer credits L.J. Smith as an inspiration for Twilight. While that kind of explains why Twilight is the Mary Sue Fail version of Vampire Diaries, I boggle at that. Also, speaking of LJS, I've been reading Nightworld and, while I like them, I think I'm going to kind of forget the second omnibus exists except for The Chosen. Dark Angel was boring and I only read about a third of it, and Soulmate (which I'm currently reading) is kinda creepy. But Daughters of Darkness, Spellbinder, and The Chosen were all pretty awesome, and Secret Vampire is kinda proof that, though they'll never be my thing "angsty vampire in love with pure teen" doesn't have to suck. Also, I'm very fond of how her Angsty Vampire Badboys keep repeatedly getting their butts handed to them in every way possible. (Quinn and Ash, I am quite fond of you, but never as much so as when your sisters and girlfriends are pwning you.)

Date: 2010-10-23 11:59 pm (UTC)But you presumably have Huntress and Witchlight to look forward to! Black Dawn could probably round out a trilogy of Night World books fans don't care for much, but it has more of the mythology stuff.

Date: 2010-10-24 12:07 am (UTC)Soulmate is creepy, but I'm sticking with it for the mythology and Hannah's tendency to stab Thierry with a pencil. But I'm engaging in a lot of futile hope that Thierry will die and not get better, and spending a lot of time mentally whining about why can't I just have a book about Maya and Hellewise instead. Dark Angel was just boring and the worst kind of makeover plot. I didn't even find out how it's connected to the rest of the series.

Date: 2010-10-24 12:10 am (UTC)SPOILERS FOR DARK ANGEL: Gillian is a Harman! Purple eyes and all. And there's a cameo by Ash. I think Gillian shows up in Soulmate as well.
