Vampire Diaries 2.7-2.8

Clearly, my priorities do not always function properly.

See, when Bonnie and Jeremy talk about their lives and feelings and bond of the things they care about, I am bored, despite being thrilled that it looks like Bonnie is going to get to do things not related to being brought out to cast a spell to help with the latest vampire-related problem, and then disappear again. When Caroline is pwning Tyler all over the place and he is trying to sneak up on her and accidentally kicking trash cans 50 feet, I am all "I want them to hook up and be supernatural crimefighters forever and ever and ever." And bonding over awkward teen superpowers. And, soon, over their mothers being monsterhunters.

Also, I was very surprised to learn that Tyler has a brain. Admittedly, it appears to be a small one, and rather one-track, but it's there. It's ok. Caroline has plenty to spare.

And I...have mostly been laughing at Damon and his Pain these two episodes? Like, his "then I'll protect her" at the tomb? Really? Like when you tried to kill Katherine a few minutes ago, knowing that it'd kill Elena too? Who's going to protect her from him? And then his actually thinking that Elena was running to him. Like, is he just completely disconnected from reality? And then the Single Emo Tear. Which I'm sure was meant to be touching and tragic, but considering that, until he started compelling her, she was basically trying not to freak out because the last time he snuck into her bedroom, he seemed to be about to force himself on her and then murdered her brother because she turned him down. Such a creepster. And I may have been screaming at the screen when he was in Caroline's bedroom (you know, the place where he repeatedly raped and abused her) even as I appreciated that she's 10 times smarter than him. (Damon is an idiot. Even if you disagree on everything else, Ii don't think this can be denied.)

Moving on:

1. I there, Bela from Supernatural! You will no doubt die soon, making me mad at the show again, but i'll enjoy you while you're hear. This show and fandom can't possibly be half as bad to you as the last one. Also,m congrats on not dying your first episode!

2. Hi there, new Bennett witch who reminds me of Gina Torres! (Thus reinforcing my belief that Bree was a Bennett.) You, too, managed to survive your first episode. I'm sure you will come back to break the spell on the tomb, and then promptly die.

(Why, yes, I did notice that she show killed 2 women in an episode where the plot was about trying to kill a woman. How did you notice my bitterness? And yeah, the show has been killing off more men lately, but I think the ratio is still about 4 or 5 dead women to every dead man.)

3. I like that we have two long term male/female vampire friendships that appear to have been completely platonic. Even if half of both sets died in their first episode.

4. Speaking of which, we know that Lexi and Stefan were friends for over a century and that Stefan got over her Crazed Monster phase pretty quickly and has been beating himself up for it ever since, so do we think that it was Lexi who got him through it? Because there has been a lot of name dropping lately.

5. You are bringing in Klaus, show, thank you very much. Please oh please oh please bring Meredith too.

6. Caroline's face when Alaric was explaining how he kills vampires! She was both filing it away for future reference and all "But...you're my teacher...and...I'm a vampire..."

7. I lovelovelove that Stefan gave Elena the varbane bomb and let her go out alone. Something Damon and his "wait in the car, you precious and delicate flower" speeches would never let her do. As much as I dislike how the show tends to cast humans as needing to be protected and not able to save themselves, most of the time, I do like that Stefan, at least, tends to usually stick to his claims that he believes Elena can handle danger and take care of herself ost situations.

That was delicious. He was so awkward and adorable at times, too.

Alaric is basically always awkward and adorable? And sometimes sincere and sometimes not-quite-ruthless(because he's too nice). And he was all "OMG my girlfriend is going to kill me about this how do I explain I am training her nephew to slay vampires?"

YES. Man, he's great. I think I love the whole main cast at this point, though I mostly enjoy Damon in a completely different way.

The one problem with your posts on TVD is that all I want to do is say "yes, this" and leave it at that, because I usually agree with you.

Oy, the boy-loving, boy-focused, boys-above-all-else portion of my friendslist/circle has picked up on the fact that TVD exists, and I'm trying not to read their posts. I might not be able to control a bout of ranting in the comments.

I suspect the main difference is that most lack my intense and visceral hatred for Damon most of the time.


Do they coo over Damon's Precious Flower speeches? Do they have those hilarious icons that are closeup's of Damon's emo-tear and and Elena's blank, compelled eye?

Well, you know, mindraping Elena because he's too cowardly to deal with the consequences of his actions is TOTALLY a sign of his emo pain, and therefore we should cosset him and excuse all his actions!

I enjoy Damon. As a villain. Which he is and has not stopped being, despite a change in tactics. This whole Damon-apologist shit is annoying me, though.

I'm in love with your icon. Any chance you remember where you got it?

Mindraping her because she's bordering on freaking out because the last time he broke into her room, he murdered her brother to punish her for rejecting him. (I don't think that the scene was leading to rape, but I do think it was leading to violence of some kind.) I somehow suspect that the show genuinely has no idea of the severe creep factor of framing the episode with Damon in caroline and Elena's bedrooms.

And you know, I can enjoy Damon as a villain when he isn't annoying me otherwise (like for most of 2.5 and 2.6) and did for the first half of season 1, but while I agree that he remains a villain, if one currently attempting to behave because he cares about Stefan and Elena and wants them to be happy with him (and I think it's very much behaving, as opposed to actually attempting to change his ways or actually be better), I'm not convinced that the show still sees him as on.

I made the icon for femslash_land Bag Bang. I'll be doing an icon post once I finish, but you can go ahead and use it if you want. I actually made it before we learned Elena really is a doppelganger (even if we don't completely know what that means yet) and was all "but...now this is a spoiler icon..." so I'm trying to mostly use it in comments until midseason, despite loving it muchly.

It's DISGUSTINGLY creepy, and, frankly, I'm a little tired of Damon threatening violence to get women to do what he wants. And by "a little tired" I mean "shut the fuck up already, Damon," and I wish the writers would get over it. I mean, yay, Rose threatened him last night, but I had already drafted a very angry post in the expectation that Rose wasn't going to make it out of last night's episode alive.

I am disillusioned enough that I think I should still keep that draft around.

Also, I think that I'm partly glad that Stefan has just owned up to the fact that Damon is fucking going to kill people and Stefan's not even going to try to stop him, not even with this new human blood regimen that he's got going on right now, but it makes me think a hell of a lot less of Stefan. Dude, if you want to be actual friends with Caroline, then maybe you should, I don't know, try to stop your big brother from killing her? He was so much better about that in s1, when he was weaker.

Thank you! I have stolen the icon and credited it. I'm not sure I would count it as a spoiler any longer, because the news that Elena was (another) doppelganger came out so long ago? But I see why you're so careful with it, really, because the doppelganger thing is such a huge plot point.

I read Stefan's line more as "and I won't always be there to protect you," but I think it was basically the writers admitting that they'd written things to the point where Damon's going to do whatever he wants to whoever he wants, and no one will actually stop him. I mean, we reached the point where the only reason everyone wasn't ganging up to kill him around midseason one and the only narrative reason not to is "But he's a main characters!"

Have you seen the new trailer, where Damon is manhandling Elena and threatening her with physical violence? Because it is so charming, let me tell you.
