I don't think I've posted yuletide recs in the past, but sincI actually participated this year, I suppose I should.  I mostly read mythology, fairy tale and folklore fic, and then some less-popular (even for yuletide) things, and follow recs for the rest.  (Also, while I don't have any here there are a lot of Bonnie/Caroline friendship [or more] fics and at least one Pearl, Anna and Katherine one forVampire Diaries and you should go read them.)

As I tend to prefer the meta/analysis/character study/deconstruction parts of fannish discussion to fic, that's reflected in a lot of these, as well as post-canon fic on books.  Assume all have one or more female lead, and probably women interacting.

Mythology:

Four seasons, a dragon and a river in flood: Chinese mythology. Xi Wang Mu, Monkey, and origins.

Love-Rejecting Aino: Finnish mythology. Based on a myth that involves a woman named Aino. I'm not familiar with the original text, but am curious about it now.

Five Futures Kassandra Saw, and One that She Could Not: Greek mythology. A non-shrieky-Kassandra, Andromache, and Helen. Includes more obscure buts of mythology.

Gorgoneia: Greek mythology. Medusa, Euryale, Stheno, draws from pre-Hellenic mythology.

Moirai: Greek mythology. Uber-obscure "Athena and Hera overthrowing Zeus" base.

Fairy Tales:

A Dance In Iron Shoes: Snow White and Sleeping Beauty. A complete dismissal of "happily ever after" based on "princess saves self from prince," that also addresses a lot of the problematic elements from both stories.

Gingerbread Betrayal: Hansel & Gretel. Greta-centric post-story. I don't normally latch onto this fairy tale, but I liked this.

Not Her Brother's Keeper: East of the Sun, West of the Moon. Sympathetic troll princess. Women working together.

Sealskin: Selkie legend. F/F (nonexplicit) selkie story. Aah...I like selkie stories, and stories about women saving women, and it isn't a common combination!

The Theory and Practice of Fairy-Godmothering, Discussed in an Appropriate Environment, Namely, Over Tea: Various.  Basically what the title says.  Continues with the deconstructive elements in other recs.

Seventh: Lady Isabel and the Elf Knight. An adaptation of the ballad.  The main thing I can say is that reading this made me realize that, though I'm familiar with many of them, and have read a fair number, I've never actually sat down and read the entirety of the Child Ballads.  And I decided I really needed to.

Misc.

Letters and Plans: White Boots/Snow Shoes by Noel Streafeild.   Harriet and Lalla exchanging letters post-book.  With gratuitous (good gratuitous!) mentions of Alec's garden.

3 fics for Wintle's Wonders/Dancing Shoes by Noel Streatfeild.  Just linking to the main page, because they're all good fics about Rachel, Hillary and Dulcie when they're older.

That Wonder-breathing Rose: The Princess and the Goblin.  Irene dealing with the world and what she knows after the story ends.

Alice In Wonderland (Abridged) :  Alice in Wonderland.  The book reimagined in a variety of forms for "modern" audiences.  Including, but not limited to, steampunk, Twilight, and noir.

On the 25th Hour: BOSS.  BOSS-fic!  Casefiles BOSS-fic!  That plays out like a normal episode (except the one we all pretend doesn't exist).

Most links take you to the static collection and not the main page, so you'll have to click through to leave kudos or comments.

If you like guessing who wrote what:  I did not write a fic in a fandom I recced a fic from.
