Via telophase , Amazon Kindle currently has a large number of books from Kaplan Publishing for free. (Probably for a very short period of time.)
I do not have a Kindle, but I did DL the app a while back, as ADD meds have helped enormously with the headaches I used to get with ebooks/any endless stream of black text on white background on a omputer screen. This seems to be the perfect opportunity to break it in.
Note: I have located 3 manga adaptations of Harlequin novels in the free books. Those may be something even I'd hesitate to read in public. Maybe.

Date: 2011-01-08 12:09 am (UTC)Wonderful Adventures of Mrs Seacole in Many Lands is the autobiography of Mary Seacole, a Jamaican nurse who, like her contemporary Florence Nightingale, rose to fame for her bravery during the Crimean War. Unlike Nightingale, however, Seacole was confronted by racism at every turn of her career. Refused a post in Crimea because she was biracial, Seacole traveled to the front on her own, where she set up her own clinic for wounded British soldiers. Told with energy, warmth, and humor, her remarkable life story offer significant insights into the history of nursing and race politics.
