I held off on White Collar episodes for a bit after hearing about the ep supposedly everyone hated so that I’d have good episodes to follow it up with. The episode was as bad as reported. The main plot mostly made me want Covert Affairs back already, because it does that kind of plot with way, way less fail. (Which is not to say Covert Affairs is perfect in that regard, but it’s at least somewhat aware of the RaceFail that often comes into play with Hollywood and foreign governments and spy plots and manages to avoid the worst of it, whereas White Collar just kinda…blindly bulldozed into it.) Then there was Neal’s character development bit. Let us pray that bit never surfaces again. But the two episodes after that were quite good, and had some adorable June and Neal and Elizabeth and Mozz bits, and had parts that played into my “Whee!” tropes. Like remote puzzle solving and dancing and publicly hidden treasures and stuff. Though, didn’t they just make Hilarie Burton a regular? Seems odd that we haven’t seen Sara since Burke’s Seven, though that status may be for season 3.

Then there’s Vampire Diaries which wasn’t as good as most of the last 2 episodes (basically, most but for the parts where Damon is the walking embodiment of Rape Culture Is Sexy And Tortured) but way better than The Descent, which, aside from the parts with Jules, Elena, Rose, Tyler and Caroline (which make up less of the episode than that list would imply) is by far my least favorite episode.

Isabel! At last! Even if only in the last few seconds. Also, I officially do dislike Alaric now. He annoys me even when he isn’t being an active loser now. And to think, in season 1, he and Stefan were the only males I didn’t dislike.

I loved Katherine explaining all of her plots (Has there been anything yet that she’s actually lied about outside of killing Elijah trapping her forever? And she was…pretty blatant there, really.) even though I am deeply saddened that she was responsible for Emily’s death. Also, I amused at how Damon apparently still doesn’t get that she’s never been into him as anything more than entertainment, even though she’s never pretended otherwise.

We need more girl’s night outs! Lots more! Without, uhm, things catching on fire…

Speaking of which, I wish the show could at least try to be a bit more original? Aside from Mason, if they announce a character death as a teaser, it’s going to be a woman, or any POC around that isn’t Bonnie. Though, at least it looks like there’s a lot more witchy stuff coming, and that’s my favorite part of the mythology.

I think I am…less upset about Matt’s freakout than others? Like Tyler, what he knows (which is actually less than Tyler knew, and unlike Tyler, his learning didn‘t have a buffer in the form of a relatively uninvolved party) paints an understandably ugly picture. Unlike Tyler, though, he doesn’t know that she can dropkick him across the room if she feels physically threatened. Not that I was pleased with Tyler’s grabbing her, either. So, basically I get the freakout (especially since I think a lot of it was that he was realizing what really happened to Vicky) but I’m not thrilled with how he’s actually making season 1 Tyler look mild-mannered and even-tempered lately. (Also, I feel so weird semi-defending Matt and Tyler because I’ve never liked Matt at all [except, possibly notably, the few scenes early in season 1 where the focus was on his concern for Vicky] and never liked how he treated Caroline, and while I sympathize with Tyler and find his plotline interesting this season and like him with Caroline, I still don’t actually like him. But this show is…so exclusively pro-vampire in it’s POV now that any other POV is immediately “bad,” even if it’s one that makes more sense than the prop-vampire POV. See also: Bonnie.)

But! Isabel! Hopefully a new witch soon! Katherine being Machiavellian! Bechdel passing!

Five weeks until a new episode!  Well, I need a detox from certain parts anyway.

I want a girls' night out that isn't just a vehicle for getting Matt satisfaction, however temporary.

At this point he would probably be a greater boon to plot, or at least various twisty emotional shenanigans, if he was dead.
