The plot in this remains thin with all sorts of soap opera twists and developments (some of which I don’t have a clue what’s going on with) yet, the art is so pretty that I do not care. The characters could read phone books all the time and I’d be fine with it as long as we still had the beautiful clothes and architecture and spreads of the celestial heavens.
Though I should mention that there is more plot now, and even character development.
Fake amnesia! I love that both Habaek and, to a lesser extent, Soah were faking it.
In Habaek’s case, particularly because then if there was sex with the fake Nakbin (not sure if there was sex or jut heavy makeouts) then it was…considerably less nonconsensual. Though, she doesn’t know that it wasn’t a love/amnesia potion, so there was still the intent to rape on her part. This has me extra annoyed because rape/attempted rape makes me unable to enjoy villains/morally questionable schemers. (Except, apparently, for Katherine Pierce.)
But I am so happy Mura wasn’t aiding and abetting rape! Especially as she’s getting character development (and is my favorite). Also, I may be shipping her a lot with the wind dude, even if I’m pretty sure it’s onesided at this point.
I don’t know who I think the fake Nakbin is (I forget her actual name) but I don’t think she actually is Nakbin. Or if she is, she’s completely changed from the Nakbin Habaek loved to the point of being someone else entirely. (I may just desperately not want another Kikyo/Inu Yasha/Kagome situation.)
And somehow, Huye and Nakbin being siblings has me even more convinced that Huye was in love with her and sees Soah as a replacement more than Habaek ever did (I don’t know if he still does, really.) They’re gods. Or demigods, whatever. When it involves godly siblings, I assume there’s an extremely high probability of incest, realized or unrealized.
I…do not know yet what I think of developments in terms of the Soah/Habaek relationship, but I did like Habaek being all “stuf u I’ll take care of this destiny thing myself” when the seer told him that the one he wanted wasn’t the one he was supposed to be with. Though I don’t know which girl they meant, or if they were thinking about the same one.
I have no clue what’s going on with most of the court scheming, and do not care. It is too pretty to care what with the textiles and buildings and fab manga character designs.

Date: 2011-07-26 04:13 pm (UTC)You've pretty much summed up why I keep reading this thing. Within a day of finishing a volume, I forget what happened, plotwise. But it's always a helluva lovely ride.
It's the complete antithesis of most of the things I read - so strange!
