Eureka 4.1-4.10

I have to hand it to the show. It takes guts to have a new timeline and make it be the new permanent time, though I wish the changes weren’t mostly to romantic relationships and jobs, especially since things are largely still business as usual. Also, I’m kinda shifty eyed over magically making the autistic kid (who actually had plots and stuff involving him at times) magically “normal” with no explanation. I mean, is autism cured in this reality or something, given that Kevin has the same parents. They did better in the future episode in season one where technology had advanced in that area. Also, what does this mean regarding Nathan and Allison/Nathan, since I’m pretty sure they said they met through Nathan working with Kevin, and IIRC, Nathan was working on a new drug to help with autism in season 1.

Other bits that make me shifty eyed:

The way Grant had pretty modern attitudes re: race from the start, but not gender? Like, I can’t help but think the writers thought they couldn’t have him saying racist stuff (and mind you, I’m totally not complaining about not having racial slurs in my comfort viewing genre shows) but sexism and chauvinistic comments are charming? And, uhm, no. But I think I like him despite that. I can’t be sure because I keep judging him as a substitute for Nathan.

And the Zoey/Zane thing. I think/hope that Jo is right and Zane is just messing with Carter and has no intentions of hurting Zoey (he probably really does think it’s a crush she’ll get over soon) but it’s very…ick. Not just the age bit (she’s legal now, so…) but…well, I actually forget sometimes that Jo isn’t Carter’s long lost daughter, because the dynamics between those 3 are so very familial? And hooking up with your sibling/sibling figure’s ex is just weird to me. (And I actually do think Jo was reacting to it like that.)

But think you so very much, show, for avoiding Dubious Consent territory re: Carter and Henry suddenly having S.O.s. (Henry v. Henry is a hoot though.)

I also spent the whole time going “gosh, show, this is the perfect chance to bring Beverly and Nathan back” and then fake!Nathan made me pout over things I can’t have, but! Beverly! Though I was hoping that she’d have everyone convinced she was good and the original timeline folks would start to buy it and then she’d unleash a master plan on them. Alas.

I cannot decide if I’m happy or not about Allison/Carter finally happening. I mean, I’ve liked the pairing from the start, but I fear a “the girlfriend is the weakness” plot.
