No, I did not leave out an "r" in the title.

This is the kind of movie that lets me type sentences like this in IMs in complete seriousness: "Hero's shirt conveniently ripped in half just in time to stop his vengeful long-lost sister from making him explode with her kung fu music. (There was a giant birthmark.)"

(I actually thought we were headed towards accidental incest for a bit, but we were not.)

Brigitte Lin stars in this as Snow, a vengeful young woman whose parents were killed 18 years ago by several other kung fu masters. The reason they were killed was because of a magic lyre that only people with very powerful kung fu can use. If you play the lyre very passionately, buildings blow up. Alternatively, you can play it so fast that you get rainbow FX to represent speed and can shoot little fire arrows that make people blow up from your fingers. Even better, young can use the strings like bow strings and shoot bigger fire arrows that make people blow up. Further, this is not a stationary weapon. It is very easy to use it in battle while flying through the air.

I love this movie.

Since it's Brigitte Lin, there are naturally various crossdressing scenes. Carina Lau also gets to join in on the crossdressing fun for a bit as the plucky student of one of the two actually-mostly-good kung fu masters who was one of the ones responsible for the deaths of Brigitte Lin's parents. Sadly, neither of them is the main character. That's Yuen Biao as the son of the other actually-mostly-good kung fu master who was one of the ones responsible for the death's of Brigitte Lin's parents. I spent a decent bit of time going "But why are you the main character instead of Brigitte Lin or Carina Lau?" He does have hijinks extraordinaire with both ladies though.

It's actually kinda typical wuxia, but with magic instruments that make people exlpode and Brigitte Lin and her fabulous evil laugh running around, and is fun.

Does anyone know if this is based on a novel, or if there's a longer (read: TV series) version with English subtitles? Because there were some plot points that I wanted to see explored more.

Note to self: Make Brigitte Lin icons.
