Looking at tumblr and following conversations on twitter:  Never have I been so happy that, only watching Avatar: The Last Airbender once whole seasons were on DVD, most of my exposure to the shipwars was secondhand, because Legend of Korra shippers are exceptionally scary.  Then again, I understand the Korra shipwars started once character designs were out.  (I suspect the fact that Suki/Sokka and Mai/Zuko were the only pairings that ever interested me at all would have made paying attention to ATLA fandom exceptionally frustrating.)

(All I care about is whether or not we have to wait until the second season to get another girl Korra's age for more than one episode without her dying, and that if we do, these aren't the kind of writers who think girls have to be rivals.)

*wanders off to make icons of baby!Korra's itty potbelly*

ETA:  Comments will likely have spoilers for leaked episode 4 stuff.

I strongly suspect that when Asami shows up, she and Korra won't get along at first, but then will become bff.

Haha that's because they're just the original Avatar: the Last Airbender shippers back for round 2. And yes, the shipwars started as soon as the character designs were leaked. *headdesk*

Ship wars for Korra started (restarted?) the instant fans learned that Aang and Katara had actually had children.
