Madraspattinam is a telugu movie set in the 1940s in present-day Chennai in which Amy, the daughter of the Madras presidency Governor, falls in love with Parithi, and Indian launderer and wrestler. Things go about as you expect. It loves its angst but has more light moments than I'd expected, and is told in flashbacks from Amy's POV 60 years later. There's not as much OTT glee and idtasticness as Magadheera, the only other Telugu movie I've seen, but it was pretty fun (despite my finding the villain to be a bit much-I kept expecting him to literally twirl his mustache) and very pretty.
This musical number pretty much sums it up:
Then there's this, which is very pretty and very emo. And purely symbolic (as you can no doubt tell by the whole "chained to a mountaintop in the middle of nowhere, while wearing armor")
