and the diagnosis is...
Feb. 16th, 2005 03:32 pm...a slight cold causing swelling and severe irritation to my throat. Which is actually what happened the other times, but those times we didn't catch it before it became laryngitis, and this time we did. Back to work on friday.
I've done a lot of viewing this week...the last ep of season 1 of Buffy, 2 eps of Wonder Woman and 9 of Inu Yasha(only one disc left) but minimal reading...I actually went to bed intending to read 4 comics last night, but halfway through the second, the sleepytime whammy hit me...comic wasn't bad...was quite good, actually, I just suddenly got reallyreally sleepy.
Stuff I've read:
A.I. Love You v7: What a lovely(if occasionally awkward) ending to an excellent freshman eff--huh? there's another volume? But...why? I mean...THE STORY ENDED!!!! This isn't like Love Hina where we reach the main climax and then still have threads that need clearing up and resolving...THE STORY ENDED!!! Well...ok, one thread, but it's one that introduced in this volume and as such, still qualifies, as without forcing that into the mix, there would be no real reason to continue(and fromthe solicit, that's not even a major issue in the next, and final, volume) That said, Akamatsu worked out the kinks and reused a lot of things in this volume in Love Hina. Complaining aside, though, this really was an excellent book, though I do have reservations about the author clearly preferring a new(as of book 6) character to his regular characters...poor Toni and Forty-chan may as well have not been there, and Forty-kun hasn't been seen since...either book 5 or the beginning of book 6.
New Thunderbolts #4: Team dynamics are developing nicely, though it looks like Captain Stick-up-his-bu-...uhm...Captain Marvel is about to come back. Darn it. And to think I used to like him... Joystick seems to be the new Moonstone and Speed Demon would get along a touch too well withFixer for the teams comfort, I suspect. That said, one of the things that I've liked best about this series so far(thinking of the issues as being a continuation of the first series) was that it brought back an aspect of Atlas's character that we hadn't seen much of since the first half of the first series(bearing in mind that he spent a good portion of the second half dead or sharing body space with his girlfriend, who I miss quite a bit) That is, give the boy half a chance to screw up, and he'll screw up, even though he'll have the best possible intentions while he does so. All in all, Atlas probably has the biggest heart and the best intentions of the TBolts, but he's not the brightest boy...
Grimjack: Killer Instict #1: Bought mostly for the creative team with, a little bit of curiosity thrown in. Quite a good little scifi romp. The first half of the issue recounted Grimjack's origin, with the second half launching the main story. This story has...uhm...everything. I mean, the main character is a former cop who was a gladiator before that who's now and assassin/pirate type who lives in a place where realities apparently overlap. I'm not quite sold on the cover price($3.99 for a 22 page comic) but I love the creative team(particularly the author) and I'm interested enough to get the rest, as well as the first trade of the Mike Grell stuff.
