So, Buick's in the shop, getting fixed from being backed into New Year's Eve...I miss it. Jeep's running fine after having the battery replaced(other one died from not being used) but it drives so differently...like, when I got the Buick, I had a problem with speeding...now, I keep going too slow...
Not much to update on, reading and viewing, so i won't bother with a cut.
Watched This Week:
Angel Season 1(disc 1)/Buffy Season 1(disc 1): I was instructed to watch these 2 season's by alternating discs...you people didn't tell me that it would be this complicated...Buffy is entertaining, but feels a bit directionless at the moment. But then, I've been told that they weren't sure there would be a season 4 originally, as it was a high school show, so I won't hold it too much against them. Angel, OTOH, completely rocks. My intro to the Buffy-verse was scatterings of season 2-3 eps(primarily the acquiring Fred arc and immediately after that) so I already knew that. IMnsHO, Angel is a much better show than Buffy. Buffy tends to get too caught up in being an allegory, leading to whininess, whereas Angel is an urban fantasy take on classic noir/detective stories.
Brother’s Grimm: Saw it in theaters. Loved it then, loved it again. I babbled about it at length then, so I won't get into it again.
The Great Raid: A good movie, though they didn't have quite enough to fill 2+ hours, so they created a side story 90% removed from the main story, featuring Connie Nielsen leading an underground movement against the Nazis, that was actually more interesting than the main story, fairly often.
Hart to Hart: Season 1(disc 1-2): Not quite Remington Steele(I say that a lot) but a rather fun show. It gets too caught up at times making sure we realize what a great guy Jonathan Hart is at times(we can tell that without having it shoved down our throats by cute kids and obsessive stalkers) but on the whole, it's great fun.
Read this week:
The Complete Jon Sable: Freelance Vol 1: An interesting book. Not as good as the other 80's properties IDW has acquired(Maze Agency, Grimjack) but more interesting and better done than a lot of todays stuff. Though I do think his origin was revealed too quickly.
DC Universe: The Stories of Alan Moore: Well, I think Alan Moore has actually calmed down in recent years. I rather liked all the Green Lantern stories, and "Whatever Happened to the Man of Tomorrow?"(primarily for a great resolution on the last page, and for being able to say what I can never quite explain in regards to Lois/Clark/Lana) Then there's the Superman/Swamp Thing story, which even I couldn't wrap my brain around...
Maze Agency Vol 1: OHOHOHOHOH!!! MORE! NEED MORE! And...I want to hunt Barr down and ask him if he's a remington steele fan. Lots of fun, good mysteries, and great art. While Adam Hughes's covers are rather hit and miss for me, he's a great character artist and good stortyteller, and is great with humor.
