At long last, I have seen it. And yes, I'm still extremely bitter about it not showing within five hours of here.

This movie is kind of Neil Gaiman and Dave McKean's version of Labyrinth and Alice in Wonderland with a bit of Sandman thrown in.

Most of the buzz, naturally, is about the visuals(specifically used instead of "effects"...more on that later) but the story itself is pretty good. It's never stated whether it's another world and everything really happened, or if it's Helena's dream, and it shouldn't be. The very end, though, seemed to indicate that it wasn't a dream. The two main characters, Helena and Valentine, are both very charming, and have great dialogue.

I use "visuals" instead of "effects" because its the designs that are impressive, the effects are just what brings them to life. And the colors! I can't believe that colors so muted can still be so vibrant. I can't really describe the overall visual result. "Eerie and surreal" would probably be best, though there's also a considerable bit of whimsy to it...

And...I want to go to that library. Wantwantwantwantwant.
