A follow up to Saturday's post, just a list and short(extremely short) descriptions of the manga I'm enjoying the most right now. Anything I've read all of is excluded. There are several that will likely be on this list once I've read more than one volume.
Basara: Favorite manga ever. About a girl who pretends to be her brother, a legendary savior, after his death. Meanwhile, the young man she meets and falls in love with is actually the prince who destroyed her village.
Black Cat: Former assassin turned bounty hunter, a con artist, a little girl who's a superweapon, and their babysitter. Very fun book and a blessedly emo-less hero.
Blade of the Immortal: Probably the bloodiest manga there is that doesn't rely on the violence and gore(and usually nudity) to sell it. About a teenaged girl who hires a ronin to be her bodyguard and get revenge on her parents killers. Home of Magatsu Taito, my favorite manga character ever.
Bleach: Modern supernatural monster killers with giant swords. 'Cept the guy with the bow that shoots energy arrows.
Dokebi Bride: Young woman raised in the tradition of Korean shamanism adjusting to modern big city life while trying to adjust to both civilization and the supernatural world without her grandmother's protection and guidance.
Fruits Basket: Alternately dark and giddy(often in the same panel) story of a girl who lives with a family cursed to become animals from the chinese zodiac anytime they're hugged by members of the opposite sex. Makes dating rather complicated, that does.
Fullmetal Alchemist: World with Alchemy instead of magic, science of religion, about 2 brothers trying to reclaim their real bodies(one is a soul inside armor and the other has a mechanical arm and leg) and explore the reality of alchemy. Uhm...you know...there's no way to describe FMA without making it sound kinda stupid, but it's one of the best.
Hana-Kimi (aka Hanazakari no Kimitachi e): About girl raised in America who disguises herseld as a boy and enrolls in an all boys school to be near her idol and finds herself as his roommate. Not quite a favorite, but it almost always makes me giddy, and if you ask me right after I read a volume, I'll tell you it's the best thing ever.
Hayate The Combat Butler: Boy's gambling parents sell his organs to the yakuza so he decides to be a villain and kidnap a girl so he can pay the yakuza off with the ransom money. Fails miserably, girls thinks he was declaring his love for her, boy end up her butler. One of the best examples of insane manga crack there is.
Her Majesty's Dog: I have no idea how to competently explain this briefly, but it's about an amazingly unworldly girl who comes from a long line of priestesses and her pet demon who's in love with her.
Night of the Beasts: Dark romance/fantasy about two distant(very distant) cousins who are the modern avatars of warring demons. The evil demon overtakes his host and the other cousin sets out to sve him and kill the demon.
Platinum Garden: Fruits Basket-lite(but not too lite) About a girl who's grandfather leaves her in debt to a rich boy who requires her to pose as his fiancee to fend off his Evil Relatives who want to marry him off. Boy has the ability to raise spirits, and when he was young, his family killed animals every day so he could practice. He has issues from this. Family doesn't care as they get rich from selling his services.
Saiyuki/Saiyuki - Reload: Extreme version of "Journey to the West" with more attitude than it knows what to do with. As someone on my flist said recently(whoever it was, if you read this, let me know so I can credit you because I forgot) it's not so much a plot as an extended character study.
Samurai Deeper Kyo: Many insane samurai fighting many long fights to prove who's the most badass insane samurai outthere. Oh, and one guy(title character) wants to get his body back so he can fight and kill the guy whose body he's in...Also has one of my favorite and least...uhm...normal...manga OTPs(and it's not really an OTP-like book) It's also the kind of book where characters randomly poke a bear's decapitated head...
Skip Beat!: Doormat girl follows fiance to Tokyo to help him become a celebrity and learns he only wanted him there to do the chores and pat his rent. She sets out to get revenge by becoming an even bigger celebrity than he is.
Vagabond: Beautiful adaptation of the novel "Musashi" about Miyamoto Musashi(uhm...I think obviously...) Takes liberties with the book but is excellent.
Vampire Knight: Two students police a school where the day class are normal rich kids and the night class is made up of vampires. I love the heroine and one of the male leads, Zero, but find the other male lead rather creepy and want to yank the heroine away from him everytime he gets near her or even mentions her.
Wallflower: Four bishounen are offered free rent if they can turn their manhungry landlady's horror movie loving, pretty-thing allergic niece into a proper lady. Doesn't go as planned.
If this list seems long, just consider that it's not even half oft he stuff I'm reading and doesn't include anything I've read all of...
