the problem with this book I'm reading...

Is that even though it's not a major plotpoint, I'm clearly supposed to feel sympathy on the romance front. I find that REALLY hard to do, what with his signing signing a marriage agreement with one girl and then immediately going to another part of the castle and confessing his love to another girl. Who is the fiancee's friend. And 12 years younger than him.
I'm fairly certain I'm meant to see it as an epic, impossible love.
Both girls deserve so much better.
