My Christmas Gifts, laundry and I just got back from family christmas at the parents.  Myles and Jen are headed to Stanford today to spend a week with her family, so we did Christmas today(resulting in my being at the parents' about an hour before I usually wake up, but I got good food out of it.

I got the three things I requested for Christmas and birthday, which were Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest, speakers for the computer(certain people may soon have to coach me in DLing doramas, and hold my hand and walk me through getting subs to work) and a cordless phone with answering machine and call waiting(the parents gave me an old one of theirs when I moved in a year ago, but the answering machine quit working a little while after that, and the whole thing died a couple months ago, leaving my with the regular phone in the bedroom, which is annoying to have to get up and answer when I'm watching something...it's basically there because the family often needs to call in the morning, and since I'll still be in bed, it's the only way I'll hear it)

I also got a pretty pink nightgown with snowflakes(which, while not overly girly, is now the girliest clothing I own)  really soft and wooly slipper-socks things with pink, silver, red and purple stripes that aren't nearly as garish as they sound(with these last 2, those of you who talk to me after I get off work or in the wee hours now have a visual to work with) regular socks, cash and a gift card, and then my father's normal "anything I can find" stocking stuffers...this year, miniature playing cards, history flashcards, tic tacs, and a bar of Lindt dark chocolate.

To explain the laundry, the city's main waterline burst monday. About a third of the city has no water, and the rest have a little water, or water with no pressure, and a very few weren't affected.  I'm one of the "no pressure" ones...I've been using the bathroom, brudhing my teeth and showering, but that's about it, and the shower takes even longer to heat up.  Anyway, parents live outside of town and use well water, so the laundry went out with me, and the rest is going on monday when I go out for lunch.

I've also started the anime "Get Backers."  It's not the greatest anime ever, but it's extremely fun, and has fixed the mild viewing doldrums I've been in the last few days.  It's also the extremely rare occassion where, five minutes into an anime, I think "he's my favorite."  "He" would be Ban, who reminds me slightly of Saito from "Rurouni Kenshin" and Ayumu from "Spiral"(incidentally, he strikes me as being the same kind of boyfriend as Ayumu was...outwardly annoyed, grouchy and prickly, but always maneuvering things so that he ends up doing all kinds of things for her without it looking like he does...for example, Ayumu always packs his bento box with Hiyono's favorite foods because, as much as he'd raather eat his cooking than her store-bought sandwiches, he knows who's going to end up with the bento 9 times out of 10...sorry, been craving a "Spiral" rewatch lately, in addition to "Wolf's Rain" and "Samurai Deeper Kyo")  Ban really isn't much like Ayumu or Saito, he just has a slightly similar demeanor to both of them.  He's considerably more animated than either character(both are extremely quiet and subdued for anime guys) and is rather like Tamahome from "Fushigi Yugi" when the subject of money comes up.  He also made me realize that I apparently have a thing for death glares in anime and manga(which completely explains my fixation on Umeda and Nanba in "Hana Kimi")

While on the subject of things it reminds me of, the setup reminds me a bit of "Black Cat," which I quite like.  Anyway, like I said, it's not the most amazing thing ever, but it's pretty good and great fun with a likable cast.  Though...there's a guy in the credits who looks like Sano from "Rurouni Kenshin's" long lost brother, who appears to also be a fist fighter, so Ban might end up with competition if the similarities don't end there.

Well, off to make the bed and then run by Waldenbooks to see if the new "Wallflower" or Fiona McKintosh book(oe better yet, both) is there, then work.  Not sure if I'll have much/any internet access at work today...suspect I'll spend most of the day on the non-internet computers.

I couldn't get into Get Backers but Ban is voiced by my all time favourite, Canna Nobutoshi! I. Love. That. Man. *^_^*

Though I enjoyed Spiral until the last few episodes...I wish they would wait for the manga to be complete before attempting a series. O_o Rather than pulling a Berserk they made up they're own ending for Spiral and it didn't work for me. *sigh*

The only thing about the end of Spiral that really annoyed me was how incomplete it was. I wish they'd put it out over here already.
