Hmm...well, I thought this wouldn't be an issue(as in, I wouldn't care about getting spoiled) but there was an accidental spoiler in the comments in another post and my soul screamed out in agony, so: NO SPOILERY!  Random bits of crack, promises of suicide attempts, etc. are all just fine, but no direct spoilers.  Dean and Sammy Winchester have kindly come by to salt and burn said spoiler(though some parts of it have already come to pass) and are making sure it disappears in a nice, big fireball.

But back on target...

Episode five was rather like one of those "Lana is awesome" Smallville episodes, only with Relena...you know, where they spend the whole time trying to convince us how great and awesome and wonderful she is, and randomly have other characters praising her(one even comments that the stars of the colonies are more sparkly when she's there...I AM NOT MAKING THIS UP! IT WAS SAID THAT RELENA MAKES STARS MORE SPARKLY!)  It should come as no surprise that I largely wanted the episode to be over so we could get back to the insane pilots.

The episode, did, however, give us Une, another pet subordinate of Treize's.  Une is most excellent and diabolical and evil and is probably smarter than all our pilots combined.  She also can toss a compact through a second or third story window from a hundred yards away with deadly accuracy.  Please note that said compact was actually a bomb.  Sadly, it didn't get Relena.

Relena also learned that she was a princess from a ridiculously pacifistic colony that was wiped out or some such.  I would not care, save that, as of episode eight, it seems that Zechs is her brother or some such.  Zech's sadly, did very little in the episodes, beyond assassinating the guy who wiped out the ridiculously pacifictic country and reveal his real name.  I do, however, feel that the combination of his name(or rather, how it's pronounced) and the helmet is rather unfortunate.

Meanwhile, back on Earth, Heero is still attending school for some bizarre reason.  He pulls a gun of Relena when she barges in his room without knocking, and she decides that that means he wants to dance with her at a ball.  While dancing, she asks him if he still plans to kill her, and he says he does.  Her response is to to tell him that she understands and is on his side now.  The reaction of both Heero and myself is essentially "WTF?"  Personally, I think it supports my theory that Relena is a robot with faulty programming.  Meanwhile, all of Relena's friends are standing on the sidelines, commenting on how lovely and wonderful she is.

Somewhere in there, Treize sends assassins to kill Relena and Heero saves her, then he angst some about why he doesn't just stomp on her right then and there.  While Heero is angsting, Treize randomly calls his assassins off.  He says it's out of respect for Zechs(apparently both of them know about Relena's Sooper Sekrit identity as a long lost princess) but I think it's because he knows the series will end sooner if she dies now.

Duo, sadly, didn't get to do much here except try to be Heero's BFF.  Quatre also tries to be Trowa's BFF, but is also no match for the suicidal emo.  Incidentally, Quatre is small, blond, pale, and ARABIC.  I have decided that he is actually a french double agent.  Oh, and his last name is Winner.  Did I mention he's Arabic?

I actually quite like Quatre, who seems very sweet and apparently has an entourage of devoted underlings.  He is also rather smart, but not very bright, if you know what I mean.

Trowa, meanwhile, is trying to prove he's as insane, emo, and suicidal as Heero.  Trowa apparently has a day job as a clown in a circus.  He gets tied to the wheel in a knife throwing act, and while she's throwing knives, the knife girl realizes that he does fear death, causing her to slip and cut Trowa's cheek.  Please note that Trowa is doing a VERY impressive silent angst turn while wearing a clown suit and strapped to a circus wheel.  Afterwards, knife girl apologizes for the cut and asks if he's all right, and he says that he didn't dodge the knife because he doesn't care if he lives or dies.  Like Heero to Relena, knife girl's reaction is "WTF?"  I long for the time when Trowa's bangs will be used as a weapon.

For a while there, I was worried that Wu Fei wouldn't  get to do anything but be stoically insane, but then we got to the part where the other four have been manipulated into fighting each other by Treize.  Since Trowa and Heero are trying to out suicidally angst each other and Quatre and Duo are still trying to be their BFF, no one is noticing the blatant manipulation, despite THEIR BEING THE ONLY PEOPLE ON THE PLANET TO HAVE GUNDAM SUITS LIKE THEIRS until Wu Fei flies in, tells them they're all idiots, and points out the blatant manipulation.  Having gone through the requisite "fight  each other because of a misunderstanding" thing that so many heroes must do, they then join forces and save the base.

THEY ARE UNITED! THEY ARE A TEAM!  THEY CAN ANGST AND ATTEMPT TO COMMIT SUICIDE TOGETHER!

Between the pointing out of stupidity and Wu Fei's general cleverness while they're all hunting down Treize for making them patsies, I was ready to declare Wu Fei the one with common sense, until he catches up with Treize in his nice, giant gundam...and climbs out to duel with swords.  Whaaaaa?  Treize, of course, beats Wu Fei in nothing flat, and then...lets him go.  I do not understand.  Why did Wu Fei not kick Treize into orbit from inside the gundam?  Why did Treize not skewer Wu Fei after beating him?  Why did Wu Fei not skewer Treize after Treize  turned his back on him?  I am willing to accept that Wu Fei's braid is so tight that it cuts off circulation to his brain, but what's Treize's excuse?  Does he simply realize that he just can't kill off any major characters until the last few episodes?

Incidentally, Wu Fei's gundam is named Nataku.  This give me Hoshin Engi flashes, and makes me realize that that Nataku would fit in far, far too well with the Gundam Wing cast.

Also, after the failure to kill Treize, Trowa sees Wu Fei and Nataku emoly sinking in the water, and realizes that he failed to kill Treize and needed alone time at the bottom of the ocean.  I was amazed at his insight.

Meanwhile, Noin remains most cool, and seems to be able to more than back up her talk(which comes across more as confidence than arrogance).  She is clearly in love with Zechs, but I fear he is too busy being an arrogant exiled prince-assassin of a lost ridiculously pacifistic nation for it to do her any good.  Really, between the extra cool Noin and the most excellent Une, and even the pretty decent Sally, the series does, mostly, seem to have a good cast of strong and interesting female characters...there's just Relena the Robot Girl.  And, honestly, that is just so WTF that if I just look at it for the absurdity and WTF factor, I can get a bizarre enjoyment out of that whole situation.  Not the enjoyment TPTB WANT me to have, but hey...

And now I spent far too long on this post and it is ridiculously late.  More insane, suicidal pilots tomorrow.  Or rather, later today.
