Slayers OVA

I watched two episodes. It took less than an hour. It felt like five. There's was serious danger of my love for Lina being chipped away at, and I'd rather leave it whole and shiny. Like my love for Slayers.
Actually, Lina herself wasn't so bad as far as things go, but that character had no business calling herself Lina Inverse. All of Lina's brains, strategy, common sense and appetite were gone. Instead of a heroine who backed up all the talk about her, we had your generic Mary Sue who everyone praised, but did nothing to show she deserved the talk. Standard material that normally wouldn't bother me as much, were I not used to the far superior version.
Then there's Naga. Guys, I don't have nearly the problems most do with anime and manga heroines. I don't hate Miaka in Fushigi Yugi. I rather like Cleao in Orphen(ok, largely because she's the only force in the universe capable of curtailing Orphen's ego, but she also tries to be useful and learn to help him as a partner.) I've loved Yuya in Samurai Deeper Kyo almost from the start(just those TSTL bits early on...) But this woman? No brains, no comedy or likability, no redeeming value at all unless you like gratuitous fan service in the form of women who run around in bikinis with breasts as big as their heads that are always bouncing all over the place. Plus, the laugh. Whoever thought the laugh was a good idea should have a terrible fate befall them.
I shall think happy thoughts about Lina, Amelia, Filia and Sylphiel and try to forget Naga exists. For that matter, that princess in season 2 is a gem in comparison.
Also, for something calling itself Slayers, that was amazingly unfunny. I can't even work up snark for it.
We also have nekkid Lina in the credits. WTF??? This is a prequel, so she's...what? 14? 15? My squick alert, it was activated.
Not even milk and cookies helped.
That said: Movies: Yay? Nay? Also, I understand there are novels and manga. Licensed? Available? Scanslated? Worth reading?
I long for more Slayers in my life, only with the real Lina(and, preferably, the rest of the regular cast) and no Naga.
