1. Dunno if I remembered to mention it, but I got a flat tire the last time I was watching the parents' place. Basically the tread gave out on the front driverside seat and I had to get it replaced(incidentally, as my parents live in the country, roadside service costs 2 times the normal rate and insurance only pays for the normal rate...oyy...) and was told that the other front tire would give out soon. Been keeping and eye on it and yup, nice big gash in the tread today. Took it to Wal-Mart(the tire was still inflated) so I could do my shopping, 1 person in front of me. Finished my stuff in 30 minutes and waited...watched them take care of several people with smaller things who dropped off their cars AFTER I left mine...such fun. Sigh. OTOH, at least the gash happened today while I was in town and didnt go flat so I could take care of it today, as opposed to having the same thing happen again.
2. Speaking of the parents, headed out there for a few days this week...about to call and see which. At the same time, Myles, Jen and Jackson are out of town for a few days so I'm feeding Sadie. They only live a few blocks from me, so it doesn't even moderately register as an inconvenience normally, but it's way out of the way when I'm at the parents'. Ah well, no biggie.
3. I'm a little past page 400 in A Game of Thrones and have "met" Jaime...I must say, not the most endearing of introductions, but we shall see.
4. It looks like someone has uploaded the first few volumes of Spiral to mangatraders. I shall be investigating shortly. Speaking of Spiral, about to rewatch the third disc after this post.
5. Smallville...sigh...the problem with Smallville is that it's too hung up on Lana Lang. In the Superman mythos, Lana is really no more than a placeholder for Lois. Now, in season 1, Lana had a point, and I rather liked her(considerably less than the rest of the cast, but I liked her) and she had context and a purpose. In season 2 she COULD have had a purpose, but the handling of Clark/Lana was absurd and overwrought in the extreme, and she spent the season pretty much literally dropkicking everyone out of her life then whining about always being abandoned. Now, in season 3, she's pointless and whiny, but that's it so she annoysd me instead of making me hate her like s2 did. However, TPTB are so caught up in her that her narrative often supercedes that of Clark and Lex(and WHY is Lex hung up on her? I mean, it annoys me, but I get why Clark is all hung up on her, but I can't even begin to see why Lex is) Lana's narrative is boring and was worn out in season 1, whereas Clark and Lex both have extremely interesting narratives, both together and individually. I'd say that the end of s3 was a very good writing out of the character...dealing with her issues and setting off to start a new life, but I know she'll be right back(though, she's bringing Jensen Ackles back with her, so I can't be TOO upset...) That said, Lana really is the ONLY downside to the show...it's largely abandoned the traditional Superman back story, but I like the story and, with the exception of Lana, I love all the characters. And, if I didn't have s4 waiting in the backlog, I'd be screaming over the ending right about now.
