to compensate for the work drama and trauma, I went looking at more SDK stuff.

I've been a Kyo/Yuya shipper for...uhm...ever(in my manga reading) the scenes in the other posts sent me over the edge.  A few other things I came across but didn't post about in the last few days gave me shippy bouncies.  But this?  This almost had me squeeing(loudly) at work.

 sanada's translations here.  If you don't know the series(even up to the US releases) this will be confusing, but  basically, Kyo and Kyoshiro are back their own bodies(about time) and Kyoshiro just revealed that he saw EVERYTHING Kyo did in his body, and is giving his version of certain events with Yuya, which he's blowing out of proportion and the rest of the gang is blowing even further out of proportion with their imaginations.)  But basically, Kyo is rather like a 5 year old with a sex drive trying to convince the other kids on the playground(and himself) that he doesn't like the girl...you know, the "if I liked her would I do THIS?" mentality, and he has...uhm...grabby hands. 

Yuya: ....What!?
Yukimura: ...But while Kyo's soul was in Kyoushirou's body...
Yukimura: Kyo would be able to see everything Kyoushirou was doing...
Yuya handwritten: N... no, stop...
Yukimura: [So he saw all the things Kyoushirou got to experience...!?]
(Kamijyo's Note: This is a fantasy, so it differs a bit from what actually happened)
Yukimura: Nice! *heart*
Kyoushirou: Oh no... I never... I never did anything like thaaaaaaat...
Yuya: Tch... what the...!!
Large black text: All hell breaks loose!!
Yuya: I don't remember any of that... that never...
Kyo: Don't worry, dog-face...
Kyo: Now that I'm back in my own body, I'll show you what a real man is like!!

Megan again:  real...a real  *snort*  Kyo, what've you been trying to do the whole series, huh?  *shakes head*  Actually, if I were Yuya, I'd be worried...I mean, sure, maybe he hasn't done anything more than grabby hands until now(actually, I've always figured that the thought of doing certain things in Kyoshiro's body was just a lil too odd for him) but girl, the horny guy hasn't gotten any in over 4 years and is in his own body...

Anyway, Yuya's up on a balcony with lots of rubble or something and she dumps a TON of it on them as her reaction to all this...

Yuya: NO WAY, YOU IDIOT!!!
Bon: Scary... she's strong...!! 
Yuya: I don't want anything to do with you, Kyo!!  Idiot!!  Pervert!!
Kyoushirou: ...Wh... why me too...?
Kyoushirou: Y... Yuya-san, let me tell you one thing.
Kyoushirou: Kyo does perverted things and is always teasing you and calling you a "dog-face", but...
Kyoushirou: The one who screamed your name, "Yuya", before wasn't me... it was Kyo.
Yuya: ...Huh?
Kyoushirou: What kind of man teases a girl like that?  Kyo has the mind of a three-year-old brat in that body...
Kyoushirou: ...KYAA!!  (True red eyes!?)

Megan:  Ok, Yuya gets hurt...Kyoshiro goes "oh no...let me be condescending for a whilethen get the poor girl off to a healer."  Kyo?  Goes insane-death-carnage-maim-annihilate.  I...don't think anyone really had any doubts about who was screaming her name at the top of their lungs.  But I guess Kyo didn't really like havingt hat pointed out to him...

Kyo: [I'll kill you!!]
Kyoushirou: [Waaahh!!  Maybe you're a four-year-old?]
Bon: ...They're like two bratty kids... (It's the first time I've seen Kyo act so silly!)
Sakuya: ...I'm glad.
Bon: What!?
Sakuya: They're back to the way they used to be...
Bon: ...They've always been like that...?
Bon: Really?
Sakuya: ...But I'm surprised too.
Sakuya: For someone as awkward with words as Kyo... to say that...
Kyo: I don't want to fight a man who can't even protect a woman!
Kyo: Who do you think she's wanted to be with all along...!?
Sakuya: Maybe Kyo also feels that way about a woman?
Sakuya: [We're always looking for...]
Sakuya: [A sense of belonging...]

Megan:  Yes Sakuya, Kyo loves Yuya, shush.  Also?  Kyo darling, get over that idea she loves Kyoshiro.  She got over that long, long ago.  (Though it is kinda cutethat he's still convinced she loves the "better man"

Anyways, at this point, the Big Bad shows up and drags Yuya off, convinced that she's a seer and can seethe future because of her conviction that Kyo will win(stupid Aka no Ou...she doesn't have psychic powers, she has OTP faith powers, and those are better) and puts her in that silly little outfit(which is actually kinda cute in a way, just...kinda silly...)  Kyo doesn't react well, of course.

Here's some of the text during the whisking off:

Bon: He... he stopped the arrow with his hand...!!
Sasuke: W... wicked...

Yuya: N... no!!  You've got it all wrong!!  I can't see the future or anything.....
Kyo: FUCK!!

Megan:  Kyo doesn't care for others touching Yuya much.  Just an observation...

Aka-chan: ...Well now, I don't really need that woman anymore, do I?
Sakuya: Ah... ah...
Kyoushirou: S... Sakuya...!!

Megan:  Lets focus more on Kyo getting there and less on Sakuya...

Then Aka whisks Yuya off:

Yuya: ...I just can't...!!
Aka-chan: If that is not the case... then why do I feel this light?  You have the same light as the seer Sakuya...
Aka-chan: One light which shines upon this doomed, hopeless world...
Yuya: ...Let me go!
Yuya: Let me go back to Kyo... and the others.....
Aka-chan: ...Soon you will no longer feel that way...
Aka-chan: ...Look.
Aka-chan: I can give you everything you could ever desire......
Aka-chan: ...That outfit suits you well, but is there anything else I can give to you?  All you need do is ask.

Yuya: I only want one thing... and that's to be with Kyo!!
Aka-chan: I think you should be a good girl and stop lying to me... humans are disgusting creatures, motivated by greed...
Aka-chan: Don't you see it's pointless to defy me?  Your heart is now linked to mine... As long as you are of use to me, it seems that we'll be spending a very, very long time together...
Yuya: Ah!!

Megan:  All she needs is to be with Kyo...I think cute fluffy things were born with that line...(why couldn't Kyo hear that?)

That was fast was Kyo getting there...(well, Kyo and the rest of the gang, who, while beloved, aren't as important because they aren't in borderline psychotic OTP rescue mode)  Kyo also gets in an awesome punch on Aka
 that got it's own two page spread...and then...and then...

I don't understand ALL the details(I'm missing chapters before this) but, to beat Aka no Ou, Kyo essentially gives in to his demon side, which makes him go nuts and attack EVERYTHING.  Yuya throws herself at him to try to stop him but psycho!Kyo throws her off and is about to stab her and good!Kyo STABS HIMSELF IN THE ARM to protect her.  Then there's(extremely demonic) face stroking and hugging and what looks to be a kiss...  *screams and flails like a rabid fangirl*

Stumbled in from Love_deeper! :D I do so love your posts on SDK! :3 I want to read futher into the manga but...am far too lazy to dig it up myself! Have been waiting on genesis-translations.

This is one of two manga to make me go "OMGSQUEE!" over a male/female OTP, so the Kyo/Yuya in these posts make for happy readers!

I forget what it was that made me cave to check out future stuff, but reading vol 29 made me flip out on the Kyo/Yuya front(though I've been a shipper ever since Mahiro(I think it was her) pretended to be Yuya and Kyo told her off because Yuya had too much self-respect to do something so stupid. Yuya and Kyo are just so...cute...which is a wird thing to say and a guy living in another guy's body who likes to grope a girl 12 years younger than him...

SDK is also one of the few occassions where I COULD ship part of my ship with someone else(Akira/Yuya) under different circumstances.

What's genesis translations?

I don't know when I started shipping...it just seemed to click at some random point! :D And reading the manga helped...(Saw the anime first...they took away Kyo's...roaming hands. Kinda of upsetting. XD)

I've never really explored that pairing, though I can see it's roots. Need more manga before I start muttering about it though!

And it's a scanlation group...*looks for link* http://www.genesis-scanlations.com/ It's nice and ordered, and the chapters are released pretty regularly. They're not THAt far along yet though, I don't think. Not as far as the US releases. (I'm currently stuck at Vol. 8 with the manga!)

I'm not sure when I REALIZED I was shipping, but looking back, I think that's what started it. One of the reasons Kyo/Yuya works for me is because at first, it doesn't look like it'll be them AT ALL and you just can't see him as caring OTP material, then suddenly you realize that he so completely IS and everyone(except Yuya) knows it.

Akira basically has the worst case of hero worship EVER. I mean, he thinks he should have killed Yuya because she gives Kyo warm fuzzies, and he likes his Kyo homicidal and ruthless and Yuya makes him more human. But, once he gets used to the warm fuzzies version of Kyo, Yuya is more something he needs to take care of so Kyo won't go off the deepend. I think, though, that he actually cares about her for herself though, and liked her even when they first met. Not sure he's actually capable of romantic feelings for anyone, though.

Manga traders has through vol 14. But you should get it from Tokyopop so they'll see more dollar signs and release it more quickly.

Good point there! At first I thought it was going to be a Yugioh style thing...(One cute, adorable character posessed by a guy who thinks nothing of slicing his arm open and killing people, blahdeblah, bad guy defeated, happily ever after.), but then it just...developed. Kyo came into his own, and it's something I remain joyous about! Even moreso his relation to Yuya. (Must scan doujinshi when it arrives...)

XD Akira is an oddball...but then again, so are most of the cast!

*nods* When I have the money I'll be buying more! I tend to use the scanlations to tide me over until my limited budget allows me to buy! I had scanlations when I only bought volume one, but sitting in a hot bath reading manga is too much fun! This can't be done with scanlations!

The thing about Kyo is that on the one hand, he really is exactly what he seems to be and he's unapologetic about it, but there's also a lot more to him than that, he's just not good at admitting it(vehemently opposed, in fact) His relationship with Yuya forces him out of that, though, because there's no way for him to get around the fact he has someone he wants to protect. Even Akira and Hotaru, who filled the role of younger brothers, were with him to become stronger, so protectiveness didn't really factor in there, which is why the other characters tend to react so strongly to her, because even though maybe WE(and Yuya) can't see the change immediately, they can(which is why Akira initially wished he'd just killed her when they first met, because then he didn't realize how much she was starting to matter, but later on he did)

Akira is not an oddball. He's a psychotic nut. They all are. It's part of their charm.

Psychologists could spend YEARS writing about the SDK guys...Akira would break any one of them and Hotaru would drive any of them nuts, though.

And..."oddball" could give one a false sense of security though...kinda like walking by Akira on the street and thinking what a polite, harmless guy he seemed to be.

My first impression being based on his appearance in the anime (naturally).

I think at first, to me, he seemed very generic and flat. Young boy, pretends to be nice, clearly hiding something, is very strong, blahdeblah, you didn't do what I want now I'mma stamp my foot and help these guys out! (Though not really)

Bratty. That's it. (I've been thinking this over for a while and I couldn't pinpoint the exact idea I originally had, so I had to go over it a few times and write it down!) I think that's how he came across. ABLE to be well mannered, definately strong but BRATTY.

Of course, I'm seeing him develop and suchforth now, so it strikes me as less so (And I like him more!). but damn if that idea still lingers in my head!

This is yet more proof that a faithful adaptation of the manga needs to be made. But yeah, in the anime, you don't get as much of a sense of how conniving and clever Akira can be. A bit of it is brattiness, yes, but it's largely that he has certain expectations of Kyo, ones that Kyo told and trained him to have, and he sees Kyo as having not lived up to those expectations and(rightly) targets Yuya as the cause. Of course, eventually he figures out that that's not really the case, Kyo's just different, and he starts following Kyo again.

Akira also(to me) comes across as younger in the anime, ditto for Hotaru, they're, I think, 19 and 22 when the anime starts.

But the development with Akira, Hotaru and Shinrei alone is cause enough to check outhe manga.

*nodnod* AGREED. I remember stumbling onto love_deeper after seeing the anime and reading up to...maybe volume 4 of the manga. All this talk of Akira, Hotaru and Shinrei (among others) left me REALLY wanting to get more manga. To me, before that, they'd just been random background characters with not much interest to them.

I agree on the younger thing too...they both seem more boyish in the anime (and in the anime it seems to be more "delusions of granduer", while in the manga those claims are pretty justified. They're STRONG.)

I'd read the first 6- manga when I watched the anime, and my first thought was "they made Kyo...nice"(aside from "great music"

Which is a thought that anyone who hasn't read the manga not only would never have, but think you were nuts for having.

But yeah, I guess they couldn't really have their male lead regularly groping the female lead and calling her "dog-face" and such.

Haha, I thought that after a while too! My friend had read some of the manga and was asking me about the anime. "They made Kyo practically asexual and nicer!" "But Kyo's a pervert!" "I know. O_o"

I can see that. "You call that NICE?" "Well, nicER."

True. Though I guess a lot had to get lopped out when they hada limited amount of episodes. Makes me kinda sad they couldn't do a "proper" anime on it (as in, extended anime following the manga more closely), it would have done well. :/ There's be guys in for the fighting and SHEDLOADS of girls in it for the pretty. And the fighting. And of course guys in it for the pretty, and people for the plot etc etc.

My point is, it would have done well! *fistshake*

I hold out hope for another, more faithful anime. I mean, Hellsing and Oh! My Goddess both got second chances...

I think a lot of the reason Kyo's Yuya-centric-perviness didn't make it to the anime was because in an anime, if your male lead is grabbing your female lead in inappropriate places every 5 minutes, you have a different kind of anime. He was probably nice-ified for the same reason.

He actually does eventually mellow out some in the manga, but it's the same thing as in the anime, where a lot of it is a case of the fact that having to take care of Yuya makes him admit that he's human. But late manga-Kyo still isn't quite as nice as early anime-Kyo.

Good point. They'd probably get away with the odd one in a full length anime, but yeah, not in a short one. Or not every five minutes.

...And out of nowhere (Well, in a flashback to the manga with Yuya wondering why Kyo calls her ugly while he insists on molesting her), I'm just picturing the kid!Kyo pushing Kid!Yuya's head into the sandbox. It's his way of saying "I like you". (Which comes back to the whole "he's a 5 year old boy with a sex drive" thing)

I really want to see him being MELLOW. Well, Kyo!Mellow. Ay, I'll get there eventually.

And they were, but I like piecing the parts inbetween. :3

I think several years for Hellsing, but I don't know when the original anime came out.

And yes, it's DEFINATELY how he shows he likes her, which everybody but her knows(which is why no one is fooled by the servant comments) Late in the manga, there's a scene where Kyoshiro is telling everyone(including Yuya) how Kyo REALLY feels and is talking about all the stuff he does and compares him to a three year old...then a four year old when Kyo tries to kill him for telling Yuya that he likes her.

Mellow Kyo is still infinitely more nuts crass and mean than most other manga heroes.

*prods around wikipedia* original Hellsing anime was released on japanese TV in october 2001 until sometime in 2002. The manga is apparently due to finish at volume 10, I think #7 or 8 is due to be released in English soon. There's hope yet! Hell, we might even get an anime that is lacking a years worth of random filler arcs.

I need to see that scene so very badly. Only now I'm having visions of the whole cast being little kids in school. This'll keep me amused the rest of the night...

There's actually something called "Samurai gakuen" where the entire cast is in high school.

But yes, SDK is VERY refreshing. Nice to have a series where there are no pretenses about the characters being homicidal nutjobs and they aren't the least bit sorry about it.

Yes! None of this "I'm badass now, but when someone is nice to me I'll change, renounce my evil ways and be NICE!" I have no problem with that scenario, but it is a LITTLE overused.

Exactly, it happens way too often. With Kyo its more "I like to try to fight my friends to the death and if you try to kill my friends I'll stop you and if you try to hurt the loudmouth I like to grope I'll kill you but in both cases I'll pretend it's for another reason."

The guys in SDK really don't care squat about being good or redemption or anysuch for the most part(Benitora, Sasuke and Yukimura are quasi-exceptions to this) they just stick by their friends and either defend them or try to kill them, depending on their mood.

Yes, SDK has a very...interesting definition of friend. "Someone who is there for you, be it watching your back or getting into regular death matches on a whim! They also provide free transport, sake and entertainment!"
