meganbmooreRather bored, so I made a VERY rare excursion(for me) to fanfiction.net.
For those who don't know, I'm 90% canon-nazi, so things that alter or rewrite histories, relationships, preferrences, etc are major "HUH???" things for me...I mean, if someone tells me that 5 years later, Okuni and Shinrei get married, I'll be "HUH?????" But hey, it doesn't exactly contradict or butcher anything from the story, so to each their own. But if someone writes a fic where Okuni married Kyoshiro and Shinrei shacked up with Akari, I'm gonna go "WTF???? HUHHUHHUH????"
That said, I actually HAVE read a few of the short things(Kyo/Yuya after the end of the series and crackfic mostly) and thought most of what I read was good. But I limited myself to stuff posted @ thelove_deepercommunity, because the maturity level there seems to be noticably higher than what I've encountered elsewhere in fanfic, and more based on canon and less on fannish rewritings of canon. I guess basically that on the rare occassions I look at fan fic, I look for continuations based on canon, as opposed to anything else.
Didn't find much that's as bad as whatdangermousietends to post, but the ones I did aren't here. Why? Because I want to forget they exist. Putting them on my LJ won't help me with that.
Please note that anything here is based on the synopses, not the fics themselves or the authors and their abilities.

Synopsis: Fubuki and Hishigi are allowed to live once again... but on one whacky condition! They have to spend a whole year in Hogwarts, as STUDENTS! “Revenge can be so sweet sometimes,” Muramasa says. HP cross.
Because 90% of the point and motivation of Kyoshiro's character ISN'T his love for Sakuya(and the reverse isn't the entirety of her character or anything), and Yukimura's interest in her isn't 100% "take care of bmy best friend's girl when he can't":
Title: The Unbroken Duty
Synopsis: Sakuya is the Princess who would be wedded to Kyoshiro Mibu against her will because it is her duty as the princess while her heart belong to her protector. Sakuya x Yukimura
Because Kyo has ever even NOTICED Benitora's crush on Yuya, much less be bothered by it(he's too busy thinking she loves Kyoshiro. Now, Kyoshiro or Akira I could see...):
Title: Whiskey Lullaby
Synopsis: Singfic. What will happen when Kyo sees Yuya with Benitora after they marry? How will he react? What will he do? How will she react and what will she do? Read on. KyoxYuyaxBenitora
If I read this right, it's about either the author or a Mary Sue marrying Shinrei(cuddles her overly uptight woobie):
Title: What Goes Around Comes Around Many Times
Synopsis: Believe it or not, guys, I'm finally almost done this! Shinrei gets involved in a war with the Authoress, aka me! How bad could it be? Well, me and Yuki can hear wedding bells... and they're aimed at Shinrei! Not even authors have it all their own way.
From a fan of Rurouni Kenshin who liked the Reflections OVA(I opened it...the kid's name is Kenji...)

Synopsis: It's been seven years since Kyo won. Now, Yuya recalls some of the events that lead to her current situation. Married with a child, the blond bounty huntress is trying to get through each chaotic day, while fending off annoying allies, and pesky neighbors
I was surprised I made it about 3 pages in before a "kill Yuya" fic...
Title: Gift For My Beloved
Synopsis: Just something to rile people up. i think there's no change from the mediaminer's. Aww... Yuya's going to die?
Because my woobie doesn't have traumatic experiences daily and, what with his being a kid, ANY pairing with him is impossible(in my eyes, not for some time):

Synopsis: Sasuke is facing a traumatizing experience… Impossible!pair. [?xSasuke]
What? This isn't 90% the canon story anyway:

Synopsis: Many problems befall the group when almost everyone likes Yuya. For some reason, someone wants her dead and the group discovers that alot of their battles were all planned and fit into a much bigger purpose. What does Yuya have to do with this? KxY main c
if it's a bad summary, why don't you try for a better one?(I wondered this a lot):
Title: Spread My Wings
Synopsis: Yuya is tired of Kyo and wants to run away from him. 2 things happens to Yuya. I know, I know bad summary but go away! A little bit of KyoxYuya
Because we need more excuses for people to say SDK is a Rurouni Kenshin ripoff(the similarities are limited to swords and an agegap in the OTP, yet people insist it's a ripoff...)
Title: The Swords of the Man Slayers
Synopsis: Now Kyo knows what Kenshin can do, and will stop at nothing to beat him. Rurouni Kenshin Samurai Deeper Kyo crossover My first Story R&R
I'm leaving this one intact because it's one I read @ thelove_deepercomm and it's crack. And could almost happen. Essentially a drunk Yuya griping to Hotaru about Kyo(post series) and Captain Stick Up His Bu...urm, Shinrei misunderstanding things.:
Looks Like Rain by Satri reviews
Synopsis: [Hotaru x Yuya] There was a moral to this story, and he was pretty sure that it involved alcohol. Lots of alcohol.
Things that scare me: The amount of Sasuke/Yukimura fic(yeah, they're good for each other and help heal each other, but in a father/son way, not THAT way) and Sasuke/Yuya fic(brother/sister type relationship) There's also a lot of Akira/Yuya fic, which I get, but also Hotaru/Yuya fic, which I don't...at least in that context(maybe I will once I track down more raws and translations...)
Also, there are a LOT of "Yuya's in trouble/gets captured! Will Kyo save her? Does he want to?" ones...I guess because it doesn't come up all the time(and get very decisively answered) every other volume or so...
There were a bunch of AU HS fics, but those make sense with Samurai Gakuen.

Although there is one nugget in my brain that's been percolating for years now that would spin off into it's own reality, but up until it starts, would adhere. I love What Ifs. ;)

Date: 2007-03-23 05:13 am (UTC)I was surprised there were so few obviously anti-Yuya ones, because, hey, female in a large cast of bishies and it's canon that most of them care for her in some fashion or another. But what I found scarring were the Sasuke ones(I mean, yeah, he's good andmature for his age--all that angst and trauma does that to a kid--but...HE'S A KID!!! He's like...Yahiko's age) and Shinrei ones(I give the guy a hard time because he's ssssssoooooooooo serious and "family loyalty" oriented, but I do adore him)

Date: 2007-03-23 02:31 pm (UTC)I'm not so insistent on canon relationships - that's part of the fun, to put characters who may not have had a chance to know each other that well in a situation where they can interact on a deeper level - but I want the characters to act pretty much like themselves. Otherwise, it's like the character is under some evil mind-control spell or something! For example, Kyo isn't going to be all cute and cuddly and romantic, no matter what happens. He'll let his affection show by his actions, not in words. That tiny, relieved smile he has when Yuya throws herself into his arms in no. 307 is Kyo getting about as mushy as he's going to get - but Yuya understands, and she's the only one who has to.
I get ticked off about all the Yuki/Sasuke stuff too, but I think it's really just the projections of fangirls who imagine that if they were cute little Sasuke, maybe they could get a piece of Yukimura. Yukimura is Sasuke's guardian and his commander - any sort of physical relationship would necessarily contain aspects of coercion: would Sasuke ever want to say "no" to Yukimura? Yukimura is aware of this, and would never put his ward/bodyguard in a position like that. Besides, right now, sex for Yuki is like his liquor habit: it's what he does to forget. I can't see him wanting to use anyone he cares about that way.

Date: 2007-03-23 04:25 pm (UTC)Kyo in 307 was definately perfect Kyo...he was all "huh? She's still waiting and she loves me?"(when will that boy get it through his head...) and if we'd had one more panel, it would have been "ok, where's the nearest cabin or cave...beat it kyoshiro"
The Yukimura/Sasuke stuff is just...disturbing. I mean, he's a kid! It's definately pedophilic, and really only escapes incestuous as a technicality(actually, I rather think part of Yukimura always sees Sasuke as this poor wet kitty he found all lost and alone in the rain and took home) I really can't see Yukimura ever doing anything with any of his people, but especially Sasuke. Actually, I pity Sasuke when he's old enough to date...can you imagine what Yukimura and the fanclub will be like? And we're assuming Benitora won't be around to "offer encouragement"
