Teaser trailer for the upcoming pre-Occupation kdrama, Mr. Sunshine. (Not sure if it’s officially considered a sageuk in that time period or not.)
The trailer looks good, but I still have misgivings. Kim Eun Sook is really popular, but most of her dramas I wouldn’t touch with a 10 foot pole. For the ones of her’s i have watched in recent years, Descendants of the Sun was enjoyable but not overly memorable, and I thought Goblin was a very interesting story done in a rather dull way, with KES obsessed with the least interesting parts and turning a lot of it into a standard “Ahjushi/Virgin” romance instead of focusing on the more interesting aspects. I also apparently have a limit as far as age differences in romantic pairings in dramas, and that limit is somewhere under 20 years. It doesn’t help that Lee Byung Hyun has a history of having affairs with (and then ruining the careers of) young actresses around Kim Taeri’s age.
Regardless of how I feel up ending about it, it’s a guaranteed blockbuster series, and hopefully, much like Goblin making networks more willing to invest in fantasy romances the last year or so (though we won’t talk about the endings of…any of these except for Chicago Typewriter, and live in hope that Hwayugi will have a good ending), this (along with Lee Young Ae’s Different Dreams) will help lead to a resurgence in Occupation and pre-Occupation dramas.
